I've been listening to alot of Christmas songs this year (burning some compilations for family) & it got me wondering what other peoples favorites are.

David Bowie/Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy

Bob Seeger - Little Drummer Boy

Jewel - O Holy Night (beautiful version)

One More Sleep til Christmas - Kermit the Frog (honestly)

Song for a Winter Night - Jewel & Sarah McLaughlin

    Three Ships - Jon Anderson

Another Rock & Roll Christmas - Gary Glitter

The First Noel - Crash Test Dummies

    To name a few.

Good list, Gary. I would add:

"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" - Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band

"Merry Christmas Darling" - The Carpenters

"White Christmas" - Der Bingle (of course)

My favorite Christmas album is probably "A Christmas Together" by John Denver & The Muppets. It always puts a smile on my face. A close second would be "We Three Kings" by The Roches. Sixty minutes of the sisters' beautiful harmonies on all the classic tunes - their version of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is sublime. And no Christmas would be complete without Vince Guaraldi's music for "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

People aren't seriously suggesting that there is a better Christmas song than Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl are they? Pure perfection in Shane's lyrics, and a tune to die for.

Other than the inclusion of that track, any attempts to put together a Christmas compilation album fail, because they aren't the Phil Spector one. Tell me your heart doesn't soar to the Wall Of Sound, and I'll ask you to say hi to Marley next time you see his ghost.

"Christmas at Ground Zero" by Weird Al Yankovic (1986)

(For the ignorant: The title is about nuclear war, not any certain 2001 major news story...)

Yes, Iain, to the greatness of the Phil Spector sound. I just can't get enough of Darlene Love's "It's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." I like the U2 remake on A Very Special Christmas okay, but nothing compares to the Wall of Sound (and I'm a hardcore U2 fan).

My favorite is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer". The Kinks' "Father Christmas" is number two on my list. After that, I have no real preferences.

I burned two blues Christmas discs last year that are getting alot of play this year. I got most of it off of Napster. I've got a couple of songs that I've never seen anywhere else. An old Rolling Stones single-Run Run Rudolph(sung by Keith) and Christmas Boogie by Canned Heat and the Chipmunks. I also really like Merry Christmas Baby by Elvis. I'm not the biggest Elvis fan but its quite good.

Somehow X'mas always reminds me of Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Listening to the 45 as I type this.

    The Phil Spector Christmas Album.

The Beach Boys Christmas Album...the 3CD set bootleg version w/outtakes.

Both are hard to beat, though Aaron Neville's and Fat's Dominoes' CD collections are close runner ups !

Definitely, 'Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You' by Billy Squier. Hard to find, but a great song.
