Ok, I stumbled upon a BBC TV show called
"Father Ted." Father Ted is a catholic priest
that resides on a small english island (Craggy Is)
and works with (takes care of) a wacky bunch of
other fathers. (Father Jack - a drunk, mean, wacky
very old priest - AND - Father Dougal - a very
    naive, dumbo)

If this show was on American TV, I think there might
    be picketing in the streets.

It is now a season pass on my TIVO because it is
$#^&*@$ hilarious. I usually don't like comedy shows,
but this rather irreverant show leaves me gasping
for air from so much laughter.

Anyone know how long this show lasted? (Is it still on
    across the pond?)

Anyone else find this show as funny? Or am I just loony?

Anyway, as Father Jack would say....."DRINK!"

    Dr. Joe

"Anyone like a good cup of tea?"

Its not a BBC show either - all episodes were first broadcast in the UK on Channel 4. The BBC merely distributes it on video in the US

Three series were made - 24 episodes in total (IIRC) and sadly Father Ted himself (Dermot Morgan) died in real life after they had finished the third.

    A great feckin series!!

I understand that the actors who played Frs. Ted and Dougal were both stand-up comics.

Has anyone ever seen their acts?

    FECK OFF!!!

I love this show too, BTW, how are the DVD's I've been trying to put this on my X-Mas list and I'm just wondering if they're good. This and the fact that I think Fawlty Towers is on DVD out. I have the 4-VHS boxed set of that great show...

It's truly unfortunately that Dermot Morgan passed away after the third season. I think I just caught it by chance after his passing. I think I think I first heard of Father Ted from a promo on another BBC home video and then saw it on the program guide for BBC America.

The Series 2 DVD is pretty good. It has the following episodes:

    - Think Fast, Father ted
    - Tentacles of Doom
    - The Old Grey Whistle Theft
    - Song for Europe
    - The Plague
    - Rock a Hula Ted
    - Cigarettes and Alcohol and Rollerblading
    - New Jack City
    - Flight Into Terror

As a sitcom, I really haven't evaluated sound and picture very carefully. They're fine.

Not much in the way of extras. There are some bios and a photo gallery on one disc; I believe the other has some sort of commentary (haven't listened to it).

Still, the strength of the episodes (each episode is pretty darn good) makes the two disc set well worth $30 (IMO).

    Have some tea

A great series. Sad for comedy and us all that Dermot Morgan died a young man.

Some parts were almost too painful to watch, while others had me laughing out loud.
