I might buy this for the 4K restoration. I will not be buying it for a commentary from Mr. Del Valle whose disgraceful gossip on The Barefoot Contessa lowered the quality of disc commentaries in general..

This is a top five Cary Grant film for me. The previous disc was...decent. I'm in for an upgrade!

I like this film, but it's not even in my top ten, perhaps top 15.

His Girl Friday
The Philadelphia Story
To Catch a Thief
Gunga Din
Mr. Lucky
Notorious
Destination Tokyo
North by Northwest
My Favorite Wife
Suspicion

Good choices, Robert, but I'd rank The Awful Truth above My Favorite Wife (as much as I like the latter).

Being a major Cary Grant fan, I can play that game too! My top fifteen would include Only Angels Have Wings, available on a very good Blu-ray disc, In Name Only and Holiday, both still waiting for their Blu-ray debuts.

They're both close, but I like Randolph Scott moreso than Ralph Bellamy.:) Plus, Gail Patrick was a personal favorite of mine playing the devious rival.

It would be in my top fifteen too. However, Holiday, I never cared for that film.

OK, I'll play the naysayer. Father Goose would not make my top 76 Cary Grant titles. I only saw it once in the theater and never on disk or TV. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it but it was such a let down after Charade

If we're doing this, we have to mention I Was a Male War Bride. One of Cary Grant's best, and sadly somewhat overlooked in modern times after being a hit at release. One of at least 20 Cary Grant movies that I'm hoping makes it to Blu-Ray in fine form before the format dies out someday.

And I'll just assume that we all agree that The Bishop's Wife is at #1, so nobody felt the need to list it. ;)

I'm very happy we are getting more Olive Signature releases, especially of these 2 films which needed an upgrade. I hope December brings The Bells of St. Mary, but I suspect that is it for their special editions for 2017.

And LeoA, yes indeed regarding Cary Grant and The Bishops Wife!

I've been wanting The Bells of St. Mary's since it came out. Should I hold off for a while longer, I wonder?

The previous edition reviewed decently, but was imperfect with definite room for improvement.

I think it's quite obvious that when discussing the films of Cary Grant, there is an embarrassment of riches to be had. He's got a list of classic films that span the 1930s to the 1960s, and once he left his studio contract days behind, he was able to pick and choose among the best available material at all the studios eliminating so much of the mediocrity that studio contract players (even stars) had foisted on them. That's why when looking at his filmography from, say, The Awful Truth onward, it's an astonishing line-up of quality movies and wonderful performances.

I think Father Goose is an underrated classic. Cary Grant plays the part of a middle aged drunk that has a rough exterior but a heart of gold, very well.

Of course, he handled all his roles in such a way. :)

Okay, maybe we can keep this topic on topic.... Father Goose was Grant's attempt to break out of old-enough-to-be-Dad leading man roles into character roles, and he would've succeeded if it'd been more of a success. Alas, it wasn't, he made a couple more movies, then retired into real fatherhood. I like to think what Father Goose might've been like if he'd gotten his first choice for leading lady, Audrey Hepburn. Still, Caron is great, and Grant ... well, it's a pleasure to see him sinking his teeth into a comedy character role. I might pick this up if the price dropped a wee bit.
