I read the same thing Michael, the production costs (like building the sets before the season) would be too high for 13 episodes but not a full season.Back then they wouldn't have had to build sets - they had the sets.
Now on the other hand they have to build the sets and apparently it will still be profitable even if they only do a few episodes.
And you have to think about all the other stuff - DVDs, action figures, books, international distribution ... - all the money from that stuff goes directly to the production company - SciFi didn't get any of that money.
I'm not saying that Henson/Kemper are the only ones to be blamed for the end of Farscape - but they certainly are not the poor victims they tend to portray themselves as.
I got the impression that the creative people behind Farscape were extremely arrogant and childish and I felt bad for the crew and cast who had lost their job because of the unprofessionalism of Henson/Kemper.Ooooh, lets go and blame the people who had nothing to do with the cancellation. Sci Fi gave Farscape a full season order and then took that away. Now who's to blame for that?
Instead of pointing the blame, lets be happy that there may be Good Farscape news coming.
SO NEAR, SO FARSCAPE:
Frellin' awesome!! As reported in next week's TV Guide magazine, the Jim Henson Company is producing a four-hour Farscape miniseries that will tie up the loose ends left dangling when the cult hit was prematurely axed last year by Sci Fi Channel.
"It's an epic conclusion to the series," confides a source. The project — which will reunite leads Ben Browder and Claudio Black - will start shooting in December in Australia.
Since the telefilm is unlikely to air on Sci Fi, word is it may be sold into syndication. So there!I can't FRELLING WAIT!!! Farscape party at my house, whenever the next episode/s air!!!
I hope whichever station carries it gets record ratings and SCI-FI channel "feels" the errors or their ways!
I can't FRELLING WAIT!!! Farscape party at my house, whenever the next episode/s air!!!I'll be there. I make the Scorpie dip.
As far as the news goes, it hasnt officially been anounced so I dont want to get my hopes up.
If it is sold into Syndication, I hope it's not hard to find.
Oh, I almost forgot. Sci Fi channel sucks!
Since the telefilm is unlikely to air on Sci Fi, word is it may be sold into syndication. So there!Actually, it's not unreasonable; the folks at NBC might be more amenable to working with Henson than the Vivendi folks were toward working with EM.TV; everybody has changed hands since the series was canceled. Then again, GE hasn't exactly sacked Bonnie Hammer yet.
I'd love to see Fox pick it up as a sweeps or summer event; just get an ironclad contract that it would air in its entirety. I think that (or TNT) is more likely than syndication.
Ultimately I think it is best if it ends up on Sci-Fi so that it fits with the current US 'syndication' package.I dont want to see this on Sci Fi because the channel sucks.
They did away with the show. Dont give the miniseries back to them....PERIOD!
I would they want it in the first place?
They dumped the show!
Didn't want it!
Treated the show and everyone involved with no respect and cared nothing about the fans.
They cancelled this show and put Tremors on.
Nuff said.Gee, do you think that might be a bit of an oversimplification? It doesn't exactly take into account that cable channels have a pretty thin budget for original programming and EM.TV had raised the price significantly. Or that "they" are at least partially different people now, after the sale of Universal to NBC? From what I read, Sci-Fi wanted the show but couldn't economically justify it (admittedly, part of the reason for that is that they did some outright weird things with scheduling).
(And, yeah, I liked Tremors a lot more than I expected)

Treated the show and everyone involved with no respect and cared nothing about the fans.Did EM.TV treat the show and the fans with respect when they decided to use it as a bargaining chip?
From what I can see, if the (then) parent company of Henson was managing their overall operations effectively, the show never would have been canceled.
