Would it make any sense to post a FAQ with some standard questions new folks ask? 'Course they might not read it until a basic question is asked and they're pointed to the faq for the education. [IMG]
I know I asked a lot of basic questions.. got responses such as: do you want to listen at ref levels? Of course I had no idea what ref level was. And as a newbie, didn't even know where I needed to be educated.
So I was thinking a FAQ divided into sections with pertinent info might be helpful:
    • Receiver
      Pre/pro (separates)
      Speakers
      Subs
      Listening room
      TV
      Cables and interconnects
Sound formats (PL, PL2, DD, DTS, etc)
and whatever else I didn't think of!
Just a thought. (but a lot of work!)

I'm guessing that this was aimed at me..lol.
I agree. That would be a big help and I wouldn't have to look stupid. BTW, I tried a couple of searches but it didn't really help.

Not aimed at you at all, Paul. I'm speaking from experience here!
I asked questions and got answers I couldn't understand because I lacked basic knowledge with which to reference the replies. (and still do!)
I just thought it might be helpful if some of the basics were covered so folks like me can go back and get re-educated and new folks would have a source to provide a basic education so the answers they get are more understandable.
I've not seen anyone here express any frustration at repeat questions. Everyone starts at the beginning. The only militant group I've seen jump on newbies was a motorcycle forum I used to be a member of. But their rules were spelled out when you joined the forum.
Please don't be offended by my suggestion. (I didn't think you were) [IMG]

Well, how about starting it yourself?
FAQs need someone to collate the answers, but that person doesn't need to be an expert.
I'm sure others will be glad to supply answers once it's started.
Make a list of questions you think are most frequently asked.
Put in the answers you know.
    Try to keep them brief.
Include links to some of the Web pages that explain details
Some topics tend to ignite controversy.
Try to supply a balanced summary of both sides.

That's nice, Parker. Where has it been hiding? [IMG]
If ya go to the rules/faq tab, all I see is forum specific stuff.
Selden, that's not a bad idea. It would definitely be a learning experience for me.
    I'll meditate on it.
