Okay, so season 8 premiered today. I like the show and it was decently funny, but had two main thoughts. First of all, this had even less of a plot than usual. Literally 22 of the 30 minutes were of Brian and Stewie standing in place in front of different backgrounds.

Secondly, is it possible that this episode is still in the can from earlier (especially with how many shows MacFarlane has taken on)? Otherwise, what is the reason for still no HD, when they did the Cleveland Show in HD.

(And just a quick thing about the Cleveland Show, what was the point in making Cleveland Jr go from a skinny little kid to being huge in this?)

Seth said in an interview (or a commentary) that he thought the space of widescreen didn't suit comedy. Still, it seems like this episode played out like the Futurama episode "The Farnsworth Parabox".

"We didn't see anything...ever!"

To answer my own question, seems they've had this since at least back during ComicCon 2008.

There will also be a show based on the sci-fi television series Sliders, with Stewie and Brian visiting parallel universes. As MacFarlane described it, “great premise, sh***y f***in’ show.”

Great start to the season. I was in tears most of the episode, especially during the Disney part.

It's possible, I remember The Simpsons didn't go high def until sometime mid season last year. I'm guessing that Family Guy and American Dad will eventually be shown in Hi-Def (all other HD hold out that I watch such as Curb Your Enthusiam and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia have made the leap starting this season. And IIRC "Something Something Something.....Dark Side" is getting a BD release.

As for last night's episode, it was funny although very "Simpsons did it"-esque. And I do think it would be nice for Seth to find something else to attack outside of Republicans and Christianity.

The show is in high def now. High def does not equal "16:9" The Wizard of Oz, like "Something, something, dark side" is high-def on Blu Ray. They are both also 4:3, which is their native aspect ratio. Vertical resolution (which is what 480, 720 and 1080 measure) has nothing to do with aspect ratio, and is what determines whether or not something is HD.

I liked the episode, allowing for Seth's trite, boring and reflexive shots at anyone who doesn't share his own opinions, which I this point I can see coming a mile away and usually just tune out. (Except that sometimes the joke I'm expecting is better than the one he actually delivers.)

I thought the Disney segment was the best, but the Robot Chicken visit was also funny. (Although there was a "pot-kettle" quality to it. :)) I'm surprised there wasn't a South Park universe. That could have been funny.

Regards,

Joe

I have DirecTV's HD pack, but I only have a SD set, so everything is letterboxed on my set, and I noticed something.......

"Road To The Multiverse" was matted on the sides. I could see a sliver of picture on the sides, so there's definitely some info they're covering up. Most people won't see it because of overscan, obviously. So, it looks like they animate at 1.78 now. Same with American Dad.

I have no clue why they aren't showing them at 1.78, though. There's definitely a lot more info there than they're showing.

The comments in a Cartoon Brew article provides some info about this episode and the future of the series.

Greg Coulton: This wasn’t intended to be the season premiere at first…this is actually the 6th episode of the 7th production season. Fox just really liked it, so it was moved forward for air. John - I wanted SO BADLY for this whole episode to be widescreen…or, at the very least, the Disney bit. Dark Knight changes aspect ratios, why can’t we!? ;) Hell, I’ve been pushing for 16:9 since Road to Germany. Oh well….we’re finally 16:9 now, starting w/ the Jedi special and then into production season 8. I’m working on “Road to the North Pole” right now…16:9, hour long Christmas special!

The "Family Goy" episode tonight was really one of the funniest in a very long time as far as I'm concerned. I've got one friend whose parents are Jewish and pretty strict in their faith, and she thought it was even better than I did.

i thought it was a let down after last week, but then i watched it after simpsons which was hands down the worst episode i'd ever seen, which was REALLY disappointing after last weeks great episode, so that could have put me in a bad mood to be watching family guy. I did love the quagmire joke about thinking he was getting the spin off though.

FUNNIEST FAMILY GUY EVER!

If this show could keep up the laughs and momentum of
this past week's episode, there would be no need for people
to leave their homes on Sunday.

I was in hysterics for the entire 30 minutes.

Among the golden moments in this episode:

Kathy Ireland cut-out
Quagmire's strengthened arm from Internet porn
Lois on the wood cross while Stewie lays on the floor saying "I hate it here!"
Peter in the window shooting at the mailbox flexing his gun and arms
Stewie in Rabbi garb saying a prayer over the candles
Lois' father baiting money on a string then spraying water gun.
Quagmire thinking he has spin-off only to see moving truck in front of Cleveland's home.

Lois: "Peter, have you been drinking?!"
Peter: "Not since I got out of the car"

Couldn't believe one line got past the censors concerning
Lois complaining about the lump on her breast while Peter
needing to get rid of the lump in his pants.

This was just Family Guy at its best.

...and we go from BEST Family Guy show to absolute WORST
EVER!

I hated SPIES LIKE US. Horrible movie. What a way to
bring on the funny by bringing aboard Chase and Aykroyd
and spoofing that horrendous film.

Not funny. Not by a longshot. This was the worst episode
of Family Guy I can remember.

Just catching up on the show.

What, no mention of the Superfriends intro, which was awesome, from the showing of Adam West to the "and Meg" part, and even having the original narrator from the actual show. I guess she isn't even good enough to be a Wonder Twin. I would liked to see evil monkey as Gleek.

Funny and horrifying to see Peter as Superman.

Have they aired the Something, Something, Something, Darkside episode yet? Amazon already has a pre-order link for the DVD or Blu-ray. I loved the first Blue Harvest, and I'm looking forward to this one.
