Yes, "The Outer Limits" was a midseason casualty in 1964-65, so there goes the "wouldn't switch to color" theory. Also, Patty Duke's memories are very untrustworthy, to put it mildly.

The Outer Limits did indeed die a midseason death due to moving from Mondays to Saturdays in January 1965....where it was massacred in the ratings by The Jackie Gleason Show. Anyway, had Outer Limits made it into a 1965-66 season, it most likely still would have been in black & white, so you're off by 1 season. :)

It wasn't ABC's decision to go full color. It had been decided by the FCC that all prime time broadcasting would be in color for the 1966 season. Among the UA shows that were on network schedules in color were It's About Time on CBS, Hey Landlord on NBC and OK Crackerby on ABC. So I seriously doubt that going to color would have had any effect on a show's pickup in 1966 as all shows were in color that year.
