If my speakers are rated 25w - 150w & if I want to use the preouts of my marantz receiver to feed an external amp, if the external amp is rated more than 150wpc will I ruin my speakers?

TIA,

Robert

The potential is there.. it actually would depend on how hard you really drove them. I believe that most people never use the majority of amp power they have.

So, the short answer is yes, if you drive the amp to feed all it is capable of, then you could fry your speakers.

I don't think you will fry them. I've used a 100 watt amp powering 20 rms speakers. Just turn the gain down.

Speakers probably get more damage when they are underpowered and bottom out or distort.
