I placed my sub is back of my sofa which is about 20' away from the receiver. I used a 12' monster sub cable with a RCA barrel to another sub cable.
Am I losing signal by doing this?
    Should I just buy a 20' cable?

Its fine to connect two cables the way you did. The only caveat is that since RCA’s have no locking provisions, it won’t take much to unplug the connection. So if you ever have a problem with it not getting a signal, that’s the first place to look.
