Hello all. I've been making this little HT system since I was about 15 with my investment in a receiver and some speakers.

So, I've got a junky KLH receiver and i've noticed all it's connections pretty much make noise and I can't seem to avoid it. I get a lot of digital noise with the optical cable. I am using a PS3 to play my music / movies.

I had the same issue with my old upscaling DVD player using it's optical line too, so I'm sure it's the receiver.

Is there anything I may be overlooking ? Or is it just time to pickup a new receiver ?

For those curious, my little system is:

Receiver: KLH R5100

Center Channel: RSL.
6" Driver and 1" tweet, ported
Freq (Guesstimate) Lows about 40hz Highs 20k+

it's a vintage speaker the only marking on it is "1973".

Surround Speakers (L / R / SL / SR) Yamaha NS-AP2600C
82 db sensitivity
4k hz crossover
2.5" cone woofer and 1/2" tweet
90-50k hz

Subwoofer: Yamaha YST-SW010
30hz lows
8" 100w powered sub

Media Player: PS3

Screen: Acer AL2216W (22" widescreen LCD monitor)
Set to: 720p
Contrast Ratio: 700:1
Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Colors: 16.7 million
Pixel Pitch. 0.282mm
Response Time: 5ms

Well, I took my PS3 over to my dad's house last night and I ran it the same way, HDMI to DVI for video and Digital Optical for Audio, and there was no noise at all.

SO yeah, I need a new receiver :/

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave that a try not long ago and it hasn't helped. I think i'll just have to go for a new receiver sometime :frowning: haha.
