    they really work...i went to office max and they sell some "stiff board"...it has like 1/8" of foam between 2 poster boards...i cut the square sheet into a U shape that i can move up or down depending on the aspect ration, and then with the remaining piece can be moved up or down to match the bottom black bar..some velcro and whammo
    it really makes u feel like you're watching a 16:9 tv and not 16:9 on a plain tv.
    well worth the $8

    I couldn't agree more. Check our archives for some great posts about mattes. They really make my old NTSC 50" look great!

    I just finished constructing mattes for my 53" Sony and I'm amazed at how good letterboxed movies look now!

    I highly recommend spending the $5-$10 it takes to make them.
