And Hollywood wonders why the box office is in a slump.

Oh god..now Steve Carrell is going to be in EVERYTHING, just like Will Ferrell.

Bruce Almighty was okay, but certainly nowhere near as good as the hype or the opening weekend(80+ million?!).

This actually strikes me as potentially funny movie having seen Carell get me rolling in the aisle laughing from 40 year. [IMG]

The only thing wrong with sequels is when they're bad.

Give it a chance. If they suck, they suck and Universal will be further along the road of them going bankrupt.

This is like when they did a sequel to THE MASK. Big big mistake. it's just not the same without Jim Carrey in it.

I'm more than willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Carrel is certainly a currently untapped well of talent and I'd like to see what they can make of him. I think it'd be a mistake to have a sequel with Bruce again or in the same vein as it'd be hard to make it fresh. But somehow the idea of Carrel trying to convince people to get on a big boat strikes me as funny.

As said above, sequels are only a bad idea if they're badly done. The Mask 2 wasn't bad because it didn't have Jim Carrey in it. It was bad because it was Baby Geniuses 3.

Except the slump seems to be the result of a lack of sequels.

I think it's a funny idea for a movie, (A Modern Day Noah's arc) but making it center around a secondary character who has baggage, but baggage that doesn't really help with anything, makes one wonder why you'd make it a sequel. And something about an entire world flooding sort of negates the optimistic view of the first movie.

    I really liked Bruce Almighty
I really liked The 40 Year Old Virgin
I think Steve Carell is hilarious
Morgan Freeman I consider to be one of the top 5 working actors, IMO

All that said...I have a bad feeling about this...

    I hope I'm wrong.

Saw the teaser today, and I have to tell you that just on the basis of this, the movie will probably be good.

The only problem in this particular case is that the movie HAS to be good. The movie costs somewhere in the vicinity of $150 million, and if they plan on at least breaking even, it has to be good, or otherwise Universal will suffer another huge disappointment, even if it has a record-breaking opening weekend, it can go down in flames in its sophomore weekend.

i read a few weeks ago that due to 'unforseen production difficulties', this is turning out to be the most expensive comedy ever filmed (to date).

I though Evan's anchor scene in the first flick was the funniest part of the whole movie.

But that teaser did nothing for me.

The problem is it sets you up for another movie with Bruce and then feels like a bait and switch.

Exactly, no imagination, spinoff this, spinoff that, sequel to this, prequel to that, doesn't anyone in Hollywood have any shred of imagination anymore[IMG]

I think it actually looks pretty funny. I'd be willing to give it a shot, but I agree it'll have a hard time making its money back.

Surprised to see they got Morgan Freeman back.
