I lived in a HUGE house with 8 to 9 people... it varied 
This house had 3 floors plus basement, 5 bedrooms (although we converted a living room into a bedroom), and 3 bathrooms. We called it the Adams Family House.
What's funny is seeing all this advice. We must have been the biggest slobs ever (except that one guy at the end of the hall that didn't want you touching his things). The majorty of us ALWAYS ordered take out, makes clean-up easy. Public areas were only cleaned before & after a major party. Eveyone else took care of their own room. The rooms were so huge in fact, that each doubled as a living room. We all had TV's, A/C's, couches, etc...
My roomate and I built ourselves lofts. Stick a couch or desk underneath, throw a matress on top and you were set. Most of the guys had a matress on the floor... no need for beds One person was resonsible for each utility, except phones... each room had a different line. Made life very easy.
That was a great time and we had some great friggin parties.... ahh to be young again. nothing like skipping class and playing volleyball all day Make me wonder how the hell I graduated....
