Is ER being filmed in HD or is NBC just showing it in widescreen just for fun? It seems strange to me that they would not film the show in HD but would still film it in the widescreen aspect ratio. I suppose Fox does the same sort of thing with X-Files and the like, but then why don't the DTV NBC affiliates broadcast the show like Fox? It all just seems a bit strange to me. Thanks, Chris

ER is filmed. Onto film, that is. They're not using HDCams.
Whether it can be shown in HD depends on whether or not the film is being transferred to video in HD. With NBC, I'm guessing no.

It is not in HD this year, just widescreen. However, someone at WNBC told me that this is being done to prepare the public for it being in full HD next season.

If all TV shows that were in HDTV were shown in letterbox on the analog channel then a lot more HDTV sets would be sold I believe. Maybe CBS should consider doing it.
