Has anyone in the NYC area been hit up buy a guy in a white van selling Epiphany Speakers?

My friend just called (he lives on the upper east side) and told me he was approached by some guy who wanted to sell him some "extra" speakers he had from a job he finished earlier in the day. The brand name of the speakers is EPIPHANY. I've never heard of them, but wanted to drop a note here to see if anyone's heard of this brand or if my friend just got had....

    Thanks for any ifo.

    Michael

    Michael,

The Epiphany speakers are just another name in the line of

    "white van" Brand speakers.

    Here they are:

    Acoustic

    Digital Audio

    Dogg Digital

    Epiphany

    Denmark

    Paradyme

and there are others! Come to think of it, Naming those speakers

Epiphanies is sort of ironic.. Since the owner finds out he

was conned and then he DOES have an Epiphany!

    Brett,

Just spoke to my friend and he tells me that the guy first mentioned "Acoustic" which my friend then replied "Acoustic Research"? and then the guy said "No" and then went on to sell him the Epiphanies.

I'm guessing the names they use are supposed to sound like well known speakers so people will buy thinking they're getting a deal...

    Acoustic - Acoustic Research

    Paradyme - Paradigm

    Epiphany - Infinity

So what do you think the actual worth of these speakers are? My friend paid $400 for the pair. How bad did he get raped?

    Thanks!

    Michael

IMHO thier worth is about $100.00 a pair.. Unless they have

actualy made better speakers as of late (which I doubt) then

they are very lousy. If you open the cabinents up and look

inside you most likely will find no crossover, cheap drivers,

thin cabinents, poor or no polyfill etc.

I am sorry your friend got scammed and yes they name these

to sound like WELL known brands.
