I just got all my speakers and about to pull the trigger on the Onkyo SR601. The living room is 13'x19'x8' with one of the 19' walls almost completely open to the dining room. My question is, does this unit have enough juice to power all my speakers?

My new system:
Fronts: Paradigm Monitor 9, 94dB @ 8 ohm
Center: Paradigm CC-370, 93 dB @ 8 ohm
Sorrounds: Onix Rocket RS-150, 88 db @ 6 ohm nominal

And the Onkyo specs as tested by December's Home Theater Mag:

Onkyo SR601
================================================== ==========
2 Channels @ 8ohm reaches 89.6 Watts at 0.1% Distortion
2 Channels @ 8ohm reaches 105.0 Watts at 1.0% Distortion
2 Channels @ 4ohm reaches 141.7 Watts at 0.1% Distortion
2 Channels @ 4ohm reaches 170.9 Watts at 1.0% Distortion
5 Channels @ 8ohms reaches 69.0 Watts at 0.1% Distortion
5 Channels @ 8ohms reaches 85.6 Watts at 1.0% Distortion

So should I dip into my TV fund to get a 701 or maybe even a Denon 2803 or 3803?

Does anyone know if the deal for the Denon 3803 at 6ave is still valid? That would be way better than the Onkyo IMO.

The 6ave/3803 deal was still valid end of last week but it's $698.06 now. Still a killer deal.

What about the HK AVR330, I listened to it last week at my local paradigm dealer with the 9's, and it did not sound bad at all.

I'll look into that 3803 deal tomorrow. I haven't auditioned the HK yet though I may drop by 6th ave to give it a go. They're actually a regional dealer around my area here for quite a number of years. Soundwise, I've heard Onkyo, Denon, and Marantz with the 9's and was only really disappointed by the Marantz 5300. Way too warm and not forward enough.

I'm still wonder if that $400 or so Onkyo will get me by with a room that size though. Saving those few hundred bucks will get me to that nice LCD or DLP RPTV faster.

Paradigms are very efficient speakers and would think the Onkyo should be enough to drive those speakers. Will the Onkyo dealer allow you to take a demo model home over the weekend? That would be the true test. If not the Denon 3803 or 2803 should give you enough power.

Guys, what do you think about the HK 325 vs. 601? Are the HKs as warm as Marantzs?
