Hi All,

I recently purchased an Energy C-300 5.1 speakers setup including:
(2) C-300 Front LR
(2) C-50 Bookshelf
(1) C-C50 Center
(1) ESW-8 Subwoofer

I plan on getting a Pioneer VSX-1018TXH-K receiver to pair with these speakers. This will be my first time setting up a speaker system like this, so I'm a bit nervous. My questions are:

1) Can someone please recommend which type of wiring I will need for the speakers and sub? I know I will need to buy an HDMI to plug into my tv.

2) Please recommend the best plugs to use (for a noob). I've read the banana plugs are good. I'm willing to pay extra $ to have the wires finished, unless it is very easy for a novice to do.

3) Does anyone have any suggestions for speaker stands to use for the surrounds? My couch cushions are approx 20" off the floor and I intend to put a surround speaker on each side of the couch facing towards the seats (approx 8' wide couch). I've read it is best to have surrounds 3 feet above your ears, but unless I wall mount them that may not be practical. I think I'd prefer stands as well, unless there are strong opinions otherwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff

I use solid wood plant stands, something like this. My surrounds weight 30 lbs apiece. They're very strong, about the correct height (I think bookshelf surrounds sound better at ear level for music) and can be painted or stained to match your decor. But your C-50's could easily be wall mounted.

The only issue with your planned placement of the surrounds is that if there is more than one person on the couch one person's head will be directly between the other person's ears and one of the surrounds speakers. While this isn't the end of the world, it will affect your listening experience.
