Dave, in my experience the problem comes in when the CF bulbs are turned off and on frequently, especially in motion-sensing lights. If your security light is simply the kind that turns on at dusk and off at dawn, you shouldn't have a problem.

Has a good listing of which brands/bulbs work well for various applications. The other thing to remember is CF bulbs take a while to warm up and brighten completely, so be sure to use normal bulbs in closets and other places where you'll just need illumination for a short period. Usually if you look around at HD or Lowes, they will have a CF sale about every month on a pack of 6 or more, where you can get the normal 60-100watt equivalents for around $2.50 per bulb.
