The instructions for my TDK VeloCD state to turn DMA on for it. So I go to settings/control panel/system/device manager and check the DMA box. I get a Windows (98) message that my hardware may not support DMA, check with its manufacturer. It takes the check mark, but when I click OK, it goes away.

Any clues?

Did you restart?

I had a similar problem in Win2K. I selected DMA if available, but it reports PIO. It's an Intel motherboard, and I'm using the Intel Application Accelerator (nee Intel ATA Driver). When I run that, it reports that the CD/DVD drive is using UDMA2. It certainly is using like 0% CPU, so that does lean towards it using DMA instead of PIO.
