Nope. Not one problem with that list. Yep. No problems at all. Seems just on target. No problems, whatsoever. [IMG]

I definitely agree that Julia Roberts is a better actress than Jodie Foster and Katherine Hepburn. Meryl Streep and Audrey Hepburn also clearly have nothing on her. Now where is that barfing icon? [IMG]

Shit, where's David Lean? He's at no.21, and it's a British list as well, the bastards, Lean's my 2nd favorite director (after Hitch).
Tim Burton above Stanley Kubrick, huh? When did this happen? Tim must be chuffed.....
Gene Hackman should be in the top 5 easily, and Cameron Diaz can wiggle her ass at me anytime but 8th best actress of all time!!!
    The mind boggleth!

He thought on homeland, the big timber, the air thin and chill all the year long. Tulip poplars so big through the trunk they put you in mind of locomotives set on end. He thought of getting home and building him a cabin on Cold Mountain so high that not a soul but the nighthawks passing across the clouds in autumn could hear his sad cry. Of living a life so quiet he would not need ears. And if Ada would go with him, there might be the hope, so far off in the distance he did not even really see it, that in time his despair might be honed off to a point so fine and thin that it would be nearly the same as vanishing.

Take George Lucas, Ridley Scott and James Cameron outta there, put in Billy Wilder, Michael Mann, Jean Renoir, Federico Fellini, Sam Peckinpah, David Lynch and Steven Soderbergh and youd have yourselves a list... clearly not the top 10 though! [IMG]

I have no problem with these lists except for the titles. These aren't the Top 10 or 25 of anything. What they are is the most recognizable names/titles to some young demographic group. It's really more of a Q rating, a popularity contest if you will. But it's only coincidence if any of these really are in their respective top 10, just like the coincidence if the kid voted most likely to succeed really does. [IMG]

Actually George, the headings to each list in Empire was 'Best' actor, actress, director etc, which doesn't help much does it, with Cameron Diaz beating Bette Davis and Glenn Close and so on it gets a bit silly, other best actresses in the top 50 by the way include greats such as Drew Barrymore at 37, and Reese Witherspoon at 41, and best cheerleader Kirsten Dunst in at 34 all of them beating off Liz Taylor at 44 and Vivien Leigh at 49, we Brits know what we like. Interesting that Ed Norton got in there but not Brad Pitt who I consider a fantastic actor.
I'd also like to point out that fantastic director need not have made any films you care for. It is after all the direction not the movie that you're talking about. I think Tim Burton is an excellent director. I've certainly not liked everything he's done but the way he does it is great.
I think actress lists will always be biased towards how they look as long as Hollywood does that too, and so long as film magazines are primarily read by men (I'd certainly guess they are). For what it's worth I would have put Kathleen Turner in any list of great actresses.
