Thanks for posting this trailer. This HBO special looks to be serious and well done . With all of the specials and documentaries done on Elvis through the years there haven't been many that were thought provoking . I'm looking forward to seeing this .Incidentally I noticed there is a soundtrack listed on Amazon and the track listing looks interesting as well - not the typical Elvis hits collection .
A stunning piece of work, I'd call it the best documentary on Elvis I've seen. Nearly equal to the great biographies "Last Train to Memphis" and "Careless Love" by Peter Guralnick
I agree, it struck me odd as well. I guess the saving grace is that there isn't a lot of full performances shown, and when they do show them they do a pretty good job with the cropping to keep the flow going. But cropping is cropping and it does suck.
My hope is a banging blu-ray release (the music sounded GREAT on this) with full performances collected as extras. Not likely to happen since it would make other official films like ELVIS '56 irrelevant to a degree. But I hope!
On February 17th, NBC will be running a special titled "Elvis All-Star Tribute" to honor the 50th anniversary (last month) of the Elvis '68 Comeback Special. It'll be hosted by Blake Shelton, and is supposed to feature some rare Elvis footage.
