I just finished assembly of a single Elf 1.5 which used the much talked about Tang Band w871s. I must start out by saying that this is my first attempt at any speaker construction of any sort.

The build process was fairly easy from start to finish, but it could have been much easier with the aid of the proper tools. This just resulted in a great deal of filling and sanding. (lesson learned!)

I ended up asking a friend of mine that works for an automotive paint supplier to mix me up some metallic blue paint for the finish. (doesn't really show up all that well in the pics). 2 coats of base and 2 coats of clear, so far.
I still plan on wet-sanding and then hand rubbing with some good compound to really build some depth to the paint.

I initially wanted to see how good of a finish I could make this little speaker to decide if it is something I wanted to take on in a bigger scale...ie better/more speakers.
I do believe it is something I will delve into, possible in the near future.

Tonight I will actually get a chance to listen to the little guy!

    Ya nice finish.
I too have looked at getting a few sprayed at a friends shop.I was thinking of a few dozen and seeing how they work out.Gives me more insite.

So what you think of the sound of the 1.5.
And did you use the Jim Griffins desing that uses 1.5mh and 5.6 resistor?

I was just meaning to show the center. the front L/R are just some old cheap speaks.

I will get to do some more listening to the center tonight.
Man, I wish those were adire 281's. they might be the next step down the road.

ya, colour is so personal. I like things bold, as you can tell by the choice in high gloss red for the flexi [IMG]

    AllanRW,
how much a diff would that little tweak make to the overall sound of the 1.5??

How about the diff between the 1.5 and the super elf?

    Jeff.
At this time I am toying with a 2way xover for the 1.5.
The Super Elf has way more detailed highs over the 1.5.
This is due to the fact the 871S in the Super Elf is in its own encloser and crossed over around 3500.So the 871S is running as a tweeter not a fullrange driver as in the 1.5.
Still like them both. But that said I will never go back to the 1.5 after listening to the Super Elf.
    Now the Spires!!
    F3 in the 80s
    F10 in the 60S

    ya, those Spires look awesome!
if I was to jump the gun and get a pair of Super Elfs,
would they fit well with the 1.5 as a center and them as the mains??

    Thanks for the input.

I just might place another order [IMG]

maybe with pre-made cabinets this time since I don't really have the tools to build them easily/accurately.

they come with the cups installed for the 871S wired for the 871S in the cup. Then the xovers allassembled in or out of the cabinet your pic.
Also the scalloping for the 319S1 gets the most out of it compared to just a hole.

Jeff i just sent you a email.
Need to know when you ordered the Super Elf single from Bob.
I need to know which one you got.
The right or left so as I can make sure you get a poper set matched.

Does the top driver the one with the cup and 871s lean in to the right or left when in the upright position.I need to know this ASAP.
    Thanks Al
