Alejandro Jodorowsky was present at TIFF, where he gave a talk.
It won't let me post a link, but you can read the interview at ain't it cool news' main page, under the title "Kannibal Spends A Weekend Of Fear With ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY!!"
If I had to make a guess as to what company he's working with on the R1 dvd releases I'd say it was Fantoma, as they have a working relationship with him from their Fando y Lis dvd, and mentioned on their website that they wanted to release more of his films, but were unable to due to rights issues. Anchor Bay is a possibility, too, as Anchor Bay UK worked with him on the 2 disc Santa Sangre. If I had my way, it'd be Blue Underground releasing them, as they're cheaper than Criterion and have similarly high standards (though I'm only judging Fantoma based on the quality of their Fando y Lis dvd, which did look damn good, just not as good as a Blue Underground or a Criterion disc might've, and for all I know they might put out better work when they're not working with a "lost" film).

In my opinion, the recent Blue Underground DVDs I've seen (THE FINAL COUNTDOWN and UNCLE SAM) aren't even close to Criterion quality- they are both riddled with excessive edge-enhancement and frankly look like crap to me. When I think Criterion, I think "film like", and in no way, shape, or form do the recent Blue Undergrounds look even remotely film-like. A friend of mine who got CANNONBALL told me it suffers from the same problem. I don't know what's up over there, but their recent DVDs have been looking pretty sh*tty.

WOW! Great, great news. I almost caved in and spent $60 on the bootleg editions from Italy. Boy, am I glad I restrained myself!

First, Thriller - A Cruel Picture and Lemora, now this!

The Italian editions are bootlegs? Are you sure about that? They're not the greatest quality but I don't see any indication they're not legitimate releases.

They've been released to DVD many times, although I don't know if any edition is legit. Every release (that I could find) has been 1.33:1 -- but supposedly this is really a 1.85:1 film. Is that true? Has it ever been released in that aspect ratio on any home video format?

Jodorowsky says that he and Klein met face to face earlier this year and set aside their past differences. He says they're good friends again.

One of the biggest thrills of my life was meeting Jodorowsky at Toronto this year. He's a very nice, gracious person. Unfortunately, at the screening of The Holy Mountain, the print they were going to show was apparently stolen, and they had to show the Japanese DVD of the film (I believe), with the digital fogging to censor certain scenes.

We should hear more about these releases in November.

has any additional info surfaced regarding these titles?

A Jodorowsky box set would be fantastic.

That's funny Vincent - something tells me all roads lead to Peter! He seems like a character. The Stunt Man is still one of my favorite films in all the world, but that's another thread!

No, they where not. The Japanese LD's have some fogging and are uncut where the Holy Mountain DVD is cut also. The Japanese LD's are way better looking also.

Wow. Simply WOW. I can't believe there hasn't been more response to this news.

This will be MINE. I got to meet Jodorowsky years ago, and he signed my LD of SANTA SANGRE. Fabulous man.

Great. Now I'll get to find out what all the fuss was about all these years.
