Last I heard was that Beuna Vista were searching for better source materials.
I'm certain they are still very much on the agenda.(although it seems to be a long time ago since they were first announced)

A word of warning for those who can't wait to get any of these titles from the Bronston Studios.
The region 4 releases of "55 Days at Peking", "Circus World"and "El Cid" are sub standard in the extreme and contain awful 4:3 Pan and scan transfers. ( Yuck and double yuck)
"Fall of the Roman Empire" is non Anamorphic Letterbox and has an acceptable transfer, if you are desperate.
It features a somewhat poor quality 2.0 true Stereo soundtrack, but is missing the Overture, Intermission and Exit music.

All of the Bronston movies mentioned above are coming out in R2 Japan very soon.

I must say I'm getting fed up with waiting for these but I'm sure the Buena Vista releases will be the ones to go for. I'm sure the Japanese issues won't have had any restoration work done.

I did not get a chance to watch it yet. Other events have prevented it. Sorry.

I figured its time to call Miramax. Talked to sevral people in video in Miramaz in New York and in Los Angeles. Got the same bad news. On the record, all these titles are on the back burner. Off the record - these titles aren't even being worked on now!!!

Jeff, can you do a quick check to see if it is the roadshow version of 55 Days At Peking (ie does it include the overture, intermission etc.)?
I would be very tempted to sell my French R2's and get these Japanese releases if they are the full roadshow versions (especially now that it seems that restored R1's aren't coming in the near future).

There was a nearly 3 minute overture, but I could not detect any intermission while fast forwarding thru the DVD.

Thanks Jeff [IMG][IMG]. Guess these are the roadshow releases then. Running time is also a good indicator. On cdjapan 55 Days has a running time of 160 minutes. My PAL R2 runs 145 minutes. So the Japanese version is +/- 9 minutes longer. I think I am going to take the gamble and order all 4 [IMG] .

Thanks from me as well Jeff. If these have the Overtures then they are better than the French, German and UK releases. Think I'll get El Cid and Fall of the Roman Empire at least, as these are my favorite Bronston epics.
