My wife and I rented a lovely house in Ketchum, Idaho, directly in the path of totality, for the 8/21/2017 total eclipse. We observed the event (which was absolutely SPECTACULAR!), then got married that afternoon!! I had my telescopes set up and my wife had two fully automated full-frame cameras going, and she got some amazing images. See below.

I'm stuck in Phoenix for this eclipse, babysitting our ailing 15-year-old Cattle Dog, and will only see the partial with about 64% coverage. My wife drove to Marion, Illinois near the centerline, and is all set up again for this one. The weather is looking fairly good there this morning, and she's ready!

If you're in the path and the weather is good you're in for a treat. A total solar eclipse is a stunning, sublime event.

Remember, these images are of the 2017 total eclipse, not the eclipse happening today...

So far the weather in Indy is looking good. If this holds for the next few hours, it will be good viewing. :)

Here in the Houston, TX area we were supposed to get 80-90%, but the weather here has eclipsed the eclipse. A weather lady on TV this morning joked that it is going to be a total eclipse in Houston because no one will be able to see it. Guess I'll save my eclipse glasses for the next one when I'm in my early nineties.

Very light cloud cover here at the truck stop in Beaverdam OH. There are a good many people parked at the rest areas on 75, and they’re having a big event at the Air & Space Center in Wapakoneta OH.

Here's the predicted cloud cover map from the National Weather Service:

Mine and Clint's AR locations are in the clear (I'm in the NE section, he's in the center of the state).

I walked out onto the roof of the building where I work. Nada. The clouds here in Houston are amazingly dense today. I didn't bother to stand out there for 20-30 minutes hoping for a tiny glimpse. It didn't get very dark here. With all the clouds it just looked like a storm was brewing.

Here are a couple of shots. The first is at maximum eclipse here in Phoenix - 11:18AM local time, taken with an iPhone 13 Pro Max through a 104mm refractor telescope.

The second is a colander acting as a pinhole camera, projecting dozens of little eclipse images onto our pool deck.

That was *very* cool! I'd found instructions for settings to change/disable on your phone to be able to photograph at totality but didn't make them... photo was OK but not good enough to post. But being able to watch the full corona for that long was amazing!

I looked for the "ripple" shadows when it went fully total but nothing looked any different - not even a sweeping shadow moving over the ground, and the colors I'd read would look "odd" (red and/or green) looked pretty normal to me.

Got to watch from the patio. This was the conversation that took place as we reached totality.

Me (grinning stupidly as I stare at the sun witnessing a cosmic event I’ll most likely never see again in my life): “This is so awesome!!!”

My wife: “Meh. I don’t know what the big deal is. I’ve seen that a hundred times in a textbook before.”

My parents (looking at their phones): “Did you know all the restaurants in California are shutting down because burger flippers are making $20/hr? Flipping burgers shouldn’t be a career!”

I guess you can’t win ‘em all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well... *I'm* with you, Clint! My grandson went outside with me - he wasn't going to bother as he has to be at work at 3 (place is a ~10 min drive in heavy traffic) but I told him he *did* have time. We both really enjoyed seeing it and he even commented about how glad he was I'd mentioned the time and that he'd be able to watch. BUT my wife had zero interest and didn't even bother going outside.

My photos were crap - but I know what they are so.... As far as seeing it like *I* saw it, I'll be quite happy to rely on professional photos - but I also saw it live and that was the first, and likely last, time I'll do that (due to both age and travel distances involved with the ones later in this century).

We were at our beach club in SC during the eclipse. Several folks had glasses, so we did get to see the 70% peak. It was pretty cool. Didn't get dark at all, but the temperature did drop -- but that was probably more because the afternoon wind picked up coming in from the ocean at that time.

Weather worked out for us in Texas, but it was touch and go. My son took a cool time lapse with his phone that gives the idea.

I forgot to mention that there were 2 or 3 solar flares visible at the bottom portion of the sun when it went into totality here. That was pretty cool, too. It took me a minute to realize what the small "bright spots" were that appeared and went away.
I saw those too and wondered if they were flares.

Friends of mine from Santa Cruz drove all the way to Austin TX for the eclipse. From video posted on the Austin TV station's website, I see they got skunked by overcast.

The 2017 eclipse was total around Boise. I drove 40 miles north just to get to the center of the path which gave minutes of totality. No clouds since it was in August.
