Jesus, maybe I can scrap up some money for an "independant" feature and get Chloe Sevigny as the role of "girlfriend.";)

BTW, is Brown Bunny eligible for any AVN awards? It would be pretty bad if it didnt at least win something, even though it is probably worse than many a porn flick in terms of acting, directing, plot, etc.

Somewhere Harmony Korine is laughing.

Gallo is one of the most self-absorbed blowhards i have ever seen. To see him fall face firstinto the shit is so much fun.

I doubt he will stop making films, he can't shut up. It will be fun to watch his site for his excuses and rationalizing (http://www.vincentgallo.com). Maybe he'll claim he gave up directing to spite the audience, like he did with painting:

"I stopped painting in 1990 at the peak of my success just to deny people my beautiful paintings. And I did it out of spite."

I don't know whether to see this (figuratively) drunk weeping as a tragic emotional collapse caused by an unfair critical attack, or an even more tragic artistic epiphany.

I really do have to see this bloody movie.

I love this alleged Gallo quote: "You want auteurs? I'm gonna be such a fuckin' auteur that I'm gonna make Andrei Tarkovsky look like James Cameron."

He forgot to add: "You want self-absorbed? I'm gonna be so fuckin' self-absorbed that I'm gonna make Narcissus look like Mother Theresa!"

Ok, maybe not, but I've always got that vibe from Gallo. Thankfully, I'm not a fan of Buffalo 66 so I don't have to have conflicting feelings about him. :)

Does anyone really deserve that?
If what you do COULD warrant applause, then it also might warrant booing.

That's the chance you take in trying to be a publically seen artist. All you are promised is the right to express yourself, nobody promises to like it. And frankly, if you aren't prepared to be laughed off the "stage" then you shouldn't be up on it.

Would it suck to have it happen, sure, but "deserve's got nothing to do with it." :)

...but if someone does deserve it it's Gallo.

Add me to the list of people curious about "the" scene in this movie. However, I have a feeling it's gonna bother me seeing an actress I like blowing (sorry, fellating) a guy I do not like. Not sure how I'm gonna react...

Come on, this guy's schtick is just that, right? An act. It has to be, judging by the disclaimer on his message board (partial excerpt follows):

Old messages will be occassionally pruned. However, if I notice any polluted messages, which usually come from bitter, jealous, ugly, poorly-hung men, who are unhappy at work and wished their whole life to be like me, I will remove these unproductive nasty little posts and I would like to say to these twisted queers and half-men, I feel sorry for you. All I ever wanted to do was be me. I hope one day you feel the same about yourself and release yourself from the petty, small-minded urges of polluting this message board and distracting its wonderful members.
Gallo's public persona (including his reaction to the vicious criticism anyone with half a brain would have expected "Bunny" to receive) seems more a calculated stunt than anything else.

And to me, that would make the difference between hating him for being a self-delluded jackass, or grudgingly liking him for having the balls to put on such an act :p)

Ha! I love this thread!

I'm with Seth and Vince. If ever there were a guy in need of a little healthy humiliation, it's Gallo.

But what does it say for the skills of the Cannes programmers that they'd include such a clearly experimental folly? I bet the hundreds of young filmmakers left out on Cannes' doorstep feel really great about the whole thing.

And if I ever get my hands on a copy, I'll surely watch the damn thing. But I'm not really all that interested. Chloe's not half as attractive as most of the porn stars out there. ;)

You must be careful what you pretend to be because in the end you are who you're pretending to be.

Off to watch Mother Night...

As much as I would like to see "the" scene, I don't want to see hardcore sex making a comeback to mainstream cinema. The "obligatory sex scene" has been around for decades, but I've noticed sex scenes in movies these days getting harder and longer (yes, pun intended), like violence did in the mid-late nineties.

Not that I really have anything against sex scenes, but I can tell you right now that I do NOT want to see "Deep Throat 2: produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and starring Kathy Bates and Christopher Walken."
