I am interested in a new sub. The one I purchased just does not seem to give me the punch that I am looking for. I am also looking for something on the smaller side. That is why I had to rule out SVS. Aaah! I really wanted a pair of those. Anyway I am really leaning toward Sunfire, but someone brought Earthquake to my attention. They said that the sizes are pretty small and alot of output. Anyone here have any experience with Earthquake? Thanks.

Thanks for the site info. I actually ended up finding it. I still have not heard much on how good they are. I mean supposedly the MKIV 12P is one of the best subs made. Any comment on that? I am also having a very hard time finding an online dealership for Earthquake. Anybody have any links? Thanks.

    Jeff,

I have the Earthquake supernova III that was just updated to the IV by Earthquake.

The controls on my sub are on the bottom, The remote control is nice!

This sub was the demo sub that the Mr. Epstein from the Wall Street Journal reviewed.

I also had the Sunfire Sig, I did not like that sub at all.

It was fine for movies, but very hard to control for music.

I also now have the Paradigm PW-2200

The Earthquake does everything the PW-2200 does,

but better. As it should at the price.

The earthquake is very flat and goes low.

    The output is unbelievable,

This can be a very nice sub for music.

And as a center piece for movies is just amazing.

When you purchase a Earthquake sub, you will get a printout, They call it the Supernova Birth Certificate

Not only is this a Quality Control Log but it shows the output test results from the LMS Snap/JEMSoftware.

My Sub prior to a few updates reads,

Keep in mind I'll just list the whole numbers per 10Hz of this sweep, even though the printout breaks it down much further.

    94db @ 10Hz, 117db @ 20Hz, 124db @ 30Hz, That is peak.

    122db @ 40Hz, 120db @ 50Hz, 119db @ 60Hz, 118db @ 70Hz,

    115db @ 80Hz, 113db @ 90Hz, 112db @ 100Hz,

Now these are from the sound room.

You will have more or less output and response in

a typical room, Sound rooms tend to have a lot of

    absorption materials.

This print out does show these also.

Much more info available on this printout.

Bottom line if you can find a dealer,

Check them out. From time to time, I see

the Earthquake being sold new around $1k and <

    on Audiogon and such.

I still love my PW-2200 also, for the price.

    Good Luck.

Deos the print out describe the size of the room, the location of the sub or the distance between the sub and the measuring mic?

When WSR measured the 15,it did very well down to 25hz...but by 20hz it was 102dB. That was in a *typical* room...measured at a 3m distance. The EQ definitely looks like a high output box though.

    Tom,
    That info was not supplied.
Home Theater Magazine had done a review on the
    EQ December 01,
    Here:
It shows to be very good also.
Although not the same as my sub.
Maybe my sub has a few tricks added as it was a
    reviewers sub?
If you can find one under $1k it's a deal.

Thanks for all the info. The best price I have found on it so far is $1298. $1381 with tax. I told my wife that I wouldn't spend over $1200 total. So if anyone else knows where I might beable to pick one up for that price let me know. Thanks!

    Jeff,

I just sent you an email with some leads.

Looks as the prices have come up since the Home Theater Mag

review. Should still be able to find a killer deal.

I have found the people at Earthquake a pleasure to deal

    with.

    HT review,

1)better to set up sub by ear rather than meter.

2)I couldn't find any test disc that had tones under 20hz

    3)SPLs >100dB can damage hearing.

not a bash against EQ at all...but HT mag is more of a joke than I remember.

btw--some guy at the klipsch forum sez he can set people up with brand new MkIII EQ12s for like $600.

killer subs for that price...no question.

Hi farnam, I hope I didn't speak for you...I just thought the pricing you found was SO good...I'd mention it here for anyone looking for a good woof.

At that price...the EQs are a steal!

Well, i teasted this sub out over the weekend and I do have to say I was pretty impressed. It played music and movies very good. However if $1298 was what I was going to pay then I would say it is not worth it. I actually tried a PSB Subsonic 7 about a month ago and loved it! I was only going to pay $729 for it. That is worth it, however the size of it was a concern, I wanted to keep things small.

Jeff,,,,what abot the Q series from REL. http://www.rel.net/products/qseries.shtml They start at around 900.00 for the 150E. I own the Strata III but a friend owns the 200E. I thought it was a good mix between H/T and music. Not as musical as my Strata but it had more punch for HT. Something my Strata lacks. Im not much of a heavy bass nut so my Strata fits me better, and thats why I went with it. Goodluck finding the right sub for you.
