Early layer switches? (1 Viewer)

My wife and I watched the rather-excellent Incognito (starring Jason Patric and Irene Jacob) tonight, and I was surprised to see the layer transition occur about 31 minutes into the feature.

What gives with that? Usually I notice them about an hour, or 75 minutes in, but this was a half hour into an hour and forty-five minute long film.

Is this a record?

I've seen those early and/or late layer switches on the discs with a lot of additional content -- like featurettes, deleted scenes, etc. Definitely seen some around 25-30 minute mark but can't recall the disc off the top of my head. My guess would be you're seeing something similar.

You're right... it's very rare. But it's probably because some of the extras were stored on the first layer (before the beginning of the movie). Most of the time, the menus (and warnings, studio logos, etc) are the only data stored on the disc's first layer before the beginning of the film.

The Fox Lorber Hard Boiled disc has a layer change around 30 seconds in.

I was wondering if this was true for "The Haunted World of Edward D Wood Jr." which I just got. The feature pauses then continues a mere 10 or so minutes into it. The word "pause" actually appears in my player then it continues...

You know in all honesty if I am going to have a layer change, I prefer it happen early rather then late. That way as the movie is in full gear it doesn't take you out of it as much.

Hi,

End of Days has the layer switch around the 8 minute mark.

And if you look at it from the other side, EDTV has its layer switch around the 2 hour mark, during a song switch in the end credits!
