According to www.dvdempire.com , Eagles Hotel California will be out on DVD-Audio tomorrow (12/11) and Hootie and the Blowfish Cracked Rear View will be out next Tuesday (12/18). Is this information accurate or have these titles been delayed? Should I expect to find Hotel California on DVD-Audio at Best Buy tomorrow?

    Keith,

C&L shows the Eagles DVD-A coming out December 18th but no mention of Hootie and the Blowfish at all. C&L is usually pretty up to date on their release dates. The one week descrepancy could be due to different distribution here in Canada though.

Patrick, forgive my ignorance, but C&L? Is this a Canadian merchant? As a US resident, the only Canadian music stores I know of are Future Shop, A&B Sound, and HMV.

I believe many albums, especially DVD-Audio discs and SACDs, are released later in Canada. In any event, someone in California mentioned on the Home Theater Hardware board that he had picked up the Hotel California DVD-Audio disc today.

Thanks, Peter. That's a web site I've never heard anyone mention before.

    Keith,

Peter answered your question about C&L. Their usually pretty on about dates and what's upcoming.

I've found that the DVD-A and SACD titles released in Canada have been fairly close if not the same day as the US releases but its always on a title by title basis.

I'm going downtown on Wednesday so I'll take a look at our big stores then.

I preordered my copy of the Eagles Hotel California and the friendly neighborhood postal worker delivered it today! Awesome!
Oh, and it sounds pretty damned good too [IMG]

John, I saw your comments about the disc on Audio Asylum. I should pre-order discs from now on. It's nice to get them early. In any event, I'll try to pick it up tomorrow. Can't wait to get a copy.

Michael, thanks for the info. I've never pre-ordered anything online. Compact Disc World is a nice store, and their prices aren't too bad if you are in their club. I've been to the one in West Windsor, NJ (near Princeton) a few times. They have a good selection of DVD-Audio discs, but they had no SACDs when I was there a couple of months ago.

Michael, next time I am in the Princeton area, I will have to check out Compact Disc World again for SACDs. It's good to know that the store near you is keeping up with SACD releases reasonably well. Thanks for the info.

People on Audio Asylum like to make fun, but I will definitely pick up the Footloose SACD. I'm also looking to get the Top Gun disc. Most of the time, I buy SACDs of music I am very familiar with, but like you, I have bought SACDs of artists that would never have interested me on a plain old CD.

Well, I went to Best Buy, Borders, and Rainbow Records (a small chain in Delaware) and could not find Hotel California. Out of curiosity, I asked someone at Borders to check their computer system to see if it came in today, and the computer showed that they didn't. The guy said they get very few DVD-Audio discs, which was readily apparent upon inspection of their music DVD section. Rainbow Records had about five DVD-Audio titles and said they didn't get Hotel California in either. They said they have seen little demand for DVD-Audio discs. [IMG] I'll be in New Jersey tomorrow and will be near a Best Buy, The Wiz, Borders, and Compact Disc World. Hopefully one of these stores will have it.
By the way, I wish Circuit City would carry DVD-Audio discs.

Didn't find Hotel California at my local BestBuy but had better luck a little while ago at Tower Records.
They had about 6 copies of the new DVDA.
Went home and thru it on the RP91 and wow! it sounds great.
An absolute wonderful job has been done on this disc.
It is now the definitive DVDA demo disc in my home.
The good news is it IS out there, just keep looking cause its worth the effort and price.

John, I will definitely go hunting for Hotel California tomorrow. Hopefully I will have better luck in New Jersey. Delaware is incredibly lame for music stores. [IMG]

    All,

I am trying to determine if the original Stereo masters were used to produce the 24bit/192K tracks.

I am using an industry source to try to contact the appropriate person.

    Regards,

    Patrick,

I'm hearing so many little details I haven't heard on the CD (but the main mix seems the same) that I want to confirm what I'm hearing.

    Mostly it's for my sanity.

    Regards,
