Found this on slashdot this morning. Gotta say that I'm hoping this isn't going to be the future of PC game development

The future? Hell, this already happened in the past! 3Dfx did the same thing with their OpenGL extensions and native 3Dfx support (GLide) for the Voodoo cards. Nvidia has done far more to further gaming on the PC than ATI has, so we'll see how it all turns out. Competition is a GOOD thing! And personally, I really like the direction Nvidia is taking graphics processing, using more of a distributed processing model so that the CPU can be better utilized. Their new graphics programming language is also a very exciting development.

However, I do think too many games are going gold while still far too buggy. They really need to step up the testing before they release a game.
