They should have included Joan Collins and Heather Locklear interviews, this being their first season. How about a Nolan Miller interview talking about the costumes?

Other than that, all I can say is, with the exception the crummy Movielab optical work (no good dupe stock existed prior to 1986 according to our own Robert A. Harris), season 2 (I've just started it) is gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS! Now I understand why people praise CBS/Paramount's TV-DVDs, they take the time to make it look as good as possible (except for that one show set in Milwaukee). If they didn't replace music, I would have no real reservations about their sets.

As for the ratings, here's what I got out of The Complete Directory to Prime Time Cable and Network TV Shows, compared to the other prime time soaps, including those that came and went quickly (I do not include shows that have continuing storylines but do not fall into the category ["don't-call-me-a-soap soaps" if you will], like Hill Street Blues). Their charts only go track from 1st to 30th place, so I consulted the individual entries in this book and Total Television for sub-30th placings:

1980-1981

1982-1983
Dallas: #2 ranking, 24.6 rating
Dynasty: #5 ranking, 22.4 rating
Falcon Crest: #8 ranking, 20.7 rating
Knots Landing: #20 ranking, 18.6 rating

1983-1984
Dallas: #1 ranking, 25.7 rating

Knots Landing: #17 ranking, 19.5 rating (tie with Growing Pains)

1986-1987
Dallas: #11 ranking, 21.3 rating

Dynasty: #24 ranking, 17.2 rating (tie with Highway to Heaven)
Knots Landing: #26 ranking, 16.8 rating (tie with Miami Vice)
The Colbys: below 30th

1987-1988
Dallas: #22 ranking, 16.8 rating
Dynasty: #33 ranking, unknown rating
Knots Landing: below 30th
Falcon Crest: #34 ranking, unknown rating

1988-1989
Knots Landing: #28th ranking, 16.1 rating (tie with CBS Sunday Movie)
Dallas: #29 ranking, 15.4 rating (tie with ABC mystery movie)
Falcon Crest: #47 ranking, unknown rating

Does anyone know where to find complete ratings charts for each year? Searching online has come up empty other than regurgitations of the tops from the major TV reference books.

I've never really seen Dynasty- I love Heather though. Is there much of her in seasons 1 and 2?

She premiered in season two; she did about 1/2 the season. She didn't become a regular character, though, until the end of season 5. Afterward, she was in every episode until the end of the show.

Thanks. I appreciate the information. I may pick up season 2 then for any that Heather is shown.

Can anyone who bought the set let me know what kind of packaging it comes in? It looks like one of those paramount thick "keep-cases" but is there a slip-cover or anything?

I came in the same kind of packaging used for the 1st season of Gunsmoke, which I feel is ideal and economical for older shows on DVD.

Presumably it should be early next year. Hopefully they'll keep up the good work on the remastering front; I can't tell you how impressed I was.
