Love the pictures from that 'Dynasty' cast reunion at the Hollywood Show. The timing of this reunion was around the same time that the "Colbys" DVD set was also announced - wonder if it was planned like that, or simply a happy coincidence?

I've just started Season Nine, and I have to say, if it wasn't for Sable's return, I'd have serious doubts about continuing. This season is where the writers tried to pick up their game, aware that Seasons Seven and Eight weren't up to par, story-wise.

Credit must go to Emma Samms, as Fallon at last returns to the bitchy, sarcastic young lady we originally fell in love with. I was so disappointed when Fallon morphed into a beige, tamed 'working mother' after LB's birth. This must have been the main reason why Pamela Sue Martin left the show after Season Four.

But Season Nine is, clearly, all about the return of Sable Colby. Stephanie Beacham OWNS this season and if the rumours were true that Joan Collins was planning to leave after Season Nine (when a tenth season was still on the cards), then Beacham was her perfect replacement. Love me some Sable.

And then incredibly they found no room for Stephanie in the Reunion movie a few years later.

CBS Paramount took their sweet time getting this series to DVD in less than stellar condition. It's okay, but not great.

What got me about that one is that the second one (1981-82, the first one they did) was one whole release in itself, but the remaining 7 were in volumes. Pretty inconsistent, wouldn't you say?

The cast as seen in "Dynasty Reunion: Catfights and Caviar" 2006.

Here's a link to a very interesting vintage article about the special:

I saw that '06 Reunion special. It was good, but I only wish that they had given two hours to it like they did the '04 Dallas one and the '05 Knots Landing one.

I wish they hadn't used paintings for those ads; makes Dynasty look like a Mad Magazine parody lol; especially with a ready and waiting Rita lying there, when in fact, she did everything she could to avoid sleeping with Blake, including poisoning him!

I think Linda could have gone farther with the Rita character. It was her chance to break away from saintly Krystle. Maybe she should have returned during Krystle's illness in Season Nine to cause some more trouble!

Promo from a Nov. 25, 1985 ABC Sunday Night Movie airing of Ewoks: The Battle For Endor: unlike the print ad above, The Colbys comes before Dynasty

Wow that was pretty unusual, no? Wasn't "Dynasty" always the lead-in for "The Colbys"?
I thought Dynasty was always the lead-in too. Something I'd like to know is when the Dynasty II appelation was retired from The Colbys title (in essence, shortening the title to simply The Colbys).

Another ad. This one has Krystle and Blake in one of their classic fireside embraces. It's been said many times that the fireside scenes between Blake and Krystle were an essential 'grounding' element to the stories.

Except for a few back-to-back "event" episodes, Dynasty aired on Wednesdays and the Colbys on Thursdays. The "Dynasty II" title only lasted for the Colbys' first few weeks.

Explains it very well! That's exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks!

The 2nd episode of The Colbys which aired on Thanksgiving Eve 1985 at 8/7c, leading into Dynasty (as evident in the promo above) was originally scheduled to air the week before on Thursday, November 21, 1985 at 9/8c, as a carefully orchestrated timeslot premiere for the series, one day after its series premiere which aired on Wednesday, November 20 at 10/9c, leading out of Dynasty, in Hotel's regular timeslot (the week before ABC also pre-empted Hotel for a 2-hour Dynasty episode in which The Colbys attend a gala at the Carrington mansion in Denver).

President Reagan however spoiled the much ballyhooed debut by addressing the Congress on his summit meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev (and a last-minute live news telecast needed to be scheduled) at exactly the same time The Colbys was supposed to make its debut in the Eastern time zone, smack dab in the middle of ABC's machinations. According to newspaper reports at the time, Charlton Heston - Ronald Reagan's old Hollywood buddy - tried to salvage the premiere and phoned President Reagan hoping to get him to change the time of the address, but wasn't successful.

ABC however couldn't simply delay the airing of the 2nd episode by a week for two reasons:

- continuity with the parent series (in episode 2 of The Colbys Blake Carrington flies to Los Angeles to see his amnesiac daughter Fallon who had been presumed dead and then at the beginning of the November 26 episode of Dynasty he tells Alexis their daughter Fallon is alive), and

- the 3rd episode opens with the Colbys' Thanksgiving dinner

For this reason, episode 2 of The Colbys ended up airing on Thanksgiving Eve at 8/7c, leading into Dynasty.

In addition to this episode, 3 more episodes of The Colbys aired on a Wednesday at 10, in Hotel's timeslot - the already mentioned series premiere, the season 2 premiere (in September 1986) and the penultimate episode of the series (in March 1987, one day before the infamous U.F.O. series finale).

Both series should have merged into one when Colby's ended. To tie up loose ends made no sense all of a sudden Jeff and Fallon return to Denver with no mention of any previous mention of the entire Colby family?? Jeff's mother never mentioned again bizarre....

They talked about it a little bit in season 9, but never gave any satisfying answers that resolved the Colbys situations.
