They never knew what to do with Sean Rowan and reportedly, the actor playing him was uncooperative, so they stopped trying.

Heh.

CBS is doing an new HD transfer for season 1. (Purportedly ready for this month).

http://syndicationbible.cbstvd.com/series/dynasty/dynasty.htm

(The CBS Syndication bible's page for Dynasty was last updated on March 28, 2017).

If CBS/Paramount end up doing a complete series dvd set for Dynasty, wonder if they will redo the season 1 dvds using these newer HD transfers. (ie. Similar to what was done for the complete series set of the original Hawaii Five-O, where the newer season 10 dvds were redone using an hd transfer. The older original first dvd release of season 10 used an older non-HD transfer).

If they did, I'd be happy to see a Complete box set. The transfers for seasons 6-9 on the UK sets came from analogue sources and don't look pretty at all.

You can't go back, folks. Dynasty, like Dallas was a product of the 1980's - a decade where spend/spend and go/go were the norm and living well in America meant you drove a Bentley and shopped for your clothes on Rodeo Drive. Would absolutely kill for some third party distributor to give the original Dynasty a Blu-ray reissue. With its focus on glitz, glam and all those great cat fights in the coy pond in garish Bob Mackie fashions no less, Dynasty on Blu - and Dynasty II: The Colbys, would look spectacular - if remastered. We need new masters of the original series - especially Season 1. Will we get it anytime soon?!?! Hmmmm. But I hate reboots. They never get it right, or merely fall into a trap of copying what has gone before, pushing 'younger' talent in place of the veterans who actually made the original series a smashing success. How can you top Joan Collins uber-bitch? There is not other Alexis Colby. N'est pas?

New HD transfers are currently being made for season 1. (If one believes what it says on the Dynasty page on the CBS syndication bible).

Seasons 2 to 9 are already in HD resolution. The hd transfers appear to have been used for the american dvd releases of the season sets. (In contrast, the european dvd releases of the later seasons might have used some older non-hd transfers).

The Colbys doesn't appear to have any HD transfers yet. (According to the CBS syndication bible).

Hard to imagine anybody outshining Joan Collins in the role of Alexis.

Offhand I can't think of any younger or middle-aged actresses who could portray a very convincing Alexis.

Joan portraying Alexis was probably catching lightning in a bottle or the "perfect storm". :)

If CBS were right with the Lord, we'd be getting a Blu-ray deluxe of Dynasty and Dynasty II and Dynasty: the reunion, plus, the superb Brit-made doc., Dynasty: The Truth Behind the Rumors, and E! - The True Hollywood Story, and, the plethora of other Dynasty featurettes, interviews and outtakes that have been produced and currently appear all over You Tube. A comprehensive Dynasty/Dynasty II Blu-ray would really be something. There's so much out there. Nothing effectively mined by CBS yet. For shame!

Dynasty complete series set being released on October 10, 2017. (It hasn't shown up yet on amazon).

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Dynasty-The-Complete-Series/23493

The tvshowsondvd article ^ asserts it will be a 57 disc set, which suggests the 1991 Reunion movie might not be included. IIRC, the disc counts of the region1 season sets were:

1st = 4 discs
2nd = 6 discs
first half of 3rd = 3 discs
second half of 3rd = 3 discs
first half of 4th = 3 discs
second half of 4th = 3 discs

first half of 5th = 4 discs
second half of 5th = 4 discs
first half of 6th = 4 discs
second half of 6th = 4 discs
first half of 7th = 4 discs
second half of 7th = 3 discs

first half of 8th = 3 discs
second half of 8th = 3 discs
first half of 9th = 3 discs
second half of 9th = 3 discs

which is a sum total of 57 discs.

I hope that the box art doesn't change much from this - it looks fabulous. And last week I was within a heartbeat of buying all the split-season sets from Seasons 6-9 (because the UK sets that I have are from lower quality sources)... now I will wait and get the entire box.

If I recall my DVDs I think many of the later seasons didn't even seem remastered am I right?

The picture quality on the region1 Dynasty seasons 6 to 9 dvd sets look like they might have been from an hd transfer.

Subjectively to my eye, the picture quality of the region1 Dynasty seasons 6, 7, 8 and 9 dvds look better than the seasons 9 to 14 dvd sets of the original Dallas. (I'm guessing the seasons 9 to 14 dvd sets of the original Dallas, might have been from old transfers from the episodes being possibly edited on sd videotape back in the day. If it was easy or inexpensive enough to do new HD transfers of the episodes from film, Warner probably would have done that instead of using old 80s/early-90s era transfers). Though I don't know for sure

There was a thread on soapchat before the board crashed awhile ago, where some folks did some screengrabs from the uk (or european) versions of the later Dynasty seasons' dvds, and some from the region1 american dvds of the same seasons. IIRC, the uk/european dvd screengrabs from the later seasons looked "older" with "washed out colors" than the american screengrabs.

I was watching through some season 7 episodes over the past week or so.

It seemed like the writers had no idea what to do with the Amanda Carrington character (played by Karen Cellini).

They had NO IDEA whatsover to do with Amanda once she divorced the prince. I think the better option would have been to kill Amanda off in the La Mirage fire. Karen Cellini did a lovely job with the character, she just needed more time to find her feet and perhaps some good scripts to act.

There was no point keeping the character once Catherine Oxenberg quit.

I liked Oxenberg's portrayal of Amanda as a sourpuss. ;)

It seemed like Cellini's portrayal was like a very different person, even ignoring the change in Amanda's accent.

The reason the character was dropped so quickly is because audiences reacted negatively to the casting change. And there was an article at a now defunct site I read a few years back (so its not available) where Cellini was recalling the experience and how she was basically thrust into a role she really wasn't suited or prepared for.

She wasn't right for the part, and it made her look like a bad actress (she isn't).
