Hi Everyone,

I'm in the market for a DVR, probably ReplayTV but open to Tivo. Unfortunately I need it fairly quickly, so the faster the response the better. I've searched the forum but couldn't find the answers to my questions. I bet you're wondering, when is this bozo going to get the questions? Well, right now.

I want to be able to record a program, and watch it at the same time, but start watching it late to skip the commercials. Example - 3 hour show, and start it 1 hour late. I also want to save the show, and skip the commercials.

When are HD compatible DVRs arriving? I currently don't have HD, but might get it very soon, say within 6 months.

I don't want to spend a ton of money of course. About 400 is my limit, and this is for an 80 hr machine with a lifetime subscription. Available from replay as a refurb, the 5508. This is the machine I'm leaning towards.

Thanks!

Almost all the DVR's I know of have the feature you want.

Dish network has the DVR series (I have 2 of them) for standard video, and my local cable company put in a High Def DVR that has dual-tuners so I can record 2 shows or record one, watch something else. Dual tuner is something you want to try and get.

None of my solutions however have a lifetime subscription. They are $25-$49/month. But in both cases you may be able to 'rent' the hardware for $5/month so you are not stuck when you want to upgrade in the near future from standard-grade to HD.
