Allan: Independence Day and Fight Club bear special recommendation.
For some strange reason, Fox is discontinuing the 2-disc versions of these movies and instead stocking the single-disc versions. If anyone here would prefer the 2-disc, special feature-laden versions of these movies to the single disc versions, its highly advisable that you pick them up now, while you still can.
Just felt the need to add that. [IMG]

thanks for the info but i already own the two disc independance day but not fight club any info as to why they would do that? so i bet if they do get discontinued, these two disc movies would be worth something if you ever decide to trade them in in the future for some cash or other movies, wouldnt they? being that they are no longer available

Fight Club is definately the best audio experience on DVD... it enhances the movie... for instance (spoilers below)
The large volume increase during the mid-air collision
The high ear-piercing sound when Tyler shoots himself in the end (my friends actually thought this effect was coming from their ears)
The rumbling low bass when the skyscrapers come-a tumblin' down.

    Other good discs:
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (remix)
    Moulin Rouge! (DTS)
    ID4
    Episode I: The Phantom Menace
    Se7en (DTS)
    Toy Story 1 & 2
    Pee Wee's Big Adventure (remix)
Dances With Wolves (DTS) - out of print
    A Bug's Life
    Men in Black (DTS)
    The Rock (DTS)

It's an old DVD, but "Bram Stoker's Dracula" has a fantastic sound field.

Also, add A Bug's Life to the list. It has some of the best balanced soundtracks I have heard and great surround action including voices heard from discrete rear speakers, and lots of panning.

I just rewatched Rules Of Engagement and had forgotten how great the sound was on it. All of the others mentioned are very good but ROE is one that people either forget or havent seen. It rocks !

There are many great sounding titles out there, many of them mentioned above, but Bram Stoker's Dracula (also already mentioned), has yet to be surpassed, IMHO.
I only have the original DVD release, not the Superbit version...gotta grab that one of these days!

I have 5 of them on my mind (in alphabetical order):

Die Hard- That explosion of the roof really rocked the house. It's one mix that kicks major ass.

Independence Day- One hell of a soundtrack that made me fell like the aliens wanted me dead. A great mix!

Rat Race- This comedy has one great sound mix. Especially for a comedy. One of the best comedy sound mixes for a DVD!

Stay Tuned- For a movie that has a sound mix designed by Wylie Stateman, the soundtrack fills the room with crisp and clear sound. One of my favorite comedies has one hell of a sound mix.

Wrongfully Accused- This is one aggresive sound mix. The great score by Bill Conti fills the room like a great concert hall. The opening sequence really surrounds you into the concert hall hearing Leslie Nielsen playing a violin. The surround effects alo make this comedy sound like a real action film. The best sound mix for a comedy I have ever heard!

    Almost forgot:

    Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition
Great Sound, Seamless Branching (i.e. 2 versions of the movie, 3 if you're good with your remote), AND one of the most comprehensive extras discs ever. Among the pantheon of DVDs that jumpstarted the market.

You should hear the DTS track on the Superbit release...AMAZING!!! I have wanted an SE of this movie for a long time, but I think I will give up, and give in to the Superbit of it for the DTS track.
