What are some DVDs that would make for great Christmas presents? Last year I recieved Sports Night: The Complete Series and it remains one of my most cherished sets. For a friend I was thinking Pirates of the Caribbean or Indiana Jones but those seem so obvious. Let's try to think of some more.

SCHIZOPOLIS on Criterion. This film was made years before Being John Malkovich, Memento, etc.

Fans of cool, gritty crime shows such as THE SOPRANOS or NYPD BLUE would enjoy CRIME STORY, recently released on Anchor Bay.

NOTHING beats Christman vacation [IMG]...especially the new box set

Of course the hottest sellers should be Two Towers, Bad Boys 2, X-Men 2 and Pirates.

The best Christmas DVD gift I ever got was the Ken Burn's Baseball Documentary set.

DVDs & baseball -- what a combination! [IMG]

This christmas I want Ken Burn's Civil War.

I gave mine away to my partner two years ago and
    have regretted it ever since.

It's an expensive set, but one that I have been
wanting to watch for quite some time.

    Absolutely will treat myself.

    Ron,
That is absolutely one of the best documentaries ever IMHO. I love it. I just graduated as a History major and we watched much of the series in one of my Civil War classes. It is just amazing. I am hoping to get it soon as well. Ken Burns knows how to do a documentary. His materials are a treasure trove of information. He also manages to walk that thin line that allows his material to be informative and educational yet captivating and interesting. Thanks... You just reminded me how awesome this set is! Must move to top of Christmas list...NOW!

I'm giving three copies of the Indiana Jones set this year. My wife will be getting the Two Towers: EE gift set for me, so that's good [IMG] Last year I got all four of wave 2 of the Disney Treasures from my brother, unfortunately, no new ones this Christmas.

A great one for the kids and the entire family for the fun and togetherness is brings is the "Lilo and Stitch's Island of Adventures" game. At only $20, it will provide hours of family entertainment.

I would also vote the Alien set as a gift...it sounds wonderful and I can't wait to upgrade that series!

There's only four DVDs I want for Christmas this year, and they're all box sets:

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7 [IMG]

I would suggest Sports Night the Complete Series for anyone who doesn't have. This show was very under appreciated while it was on the air. I will probably be buying for a few more people this year.

Well, my mom is going to get me M*A*S*H season 5. But, I'll probably end up with more than that, as my DVD wishlist for Christmas isn't that long. M*A*S*H s. 5, and Southpark S. 3 are about the only things on it, since I'm already buying Alien Quad.

One of my friends is getting Simpsons S. 3, and another is getting the Space Ghost DVD, because he likes that show a lot.

Although, after reading this thread, I'm not sure I'll be able to get by without the Civil War documentary. I'm a historian, but I also liked Baseball: a Film by Ken Burns.

I would also agree that Sports Night would be a good gift.

Sports Night or Band of Brothers. BoB just blew me away after I got this as a blind purchase.

Sports Night on the other hand...probably the most watched DVDs of my collection. I would have no problem buying this for friends, enemies, or my mailman. OK - ANYBODY!!!

If you don't own this set you should get three...one for yourself and two to give away. If they sell enough I'd love to see a re-release with more special features (the current SN set lets you choose which episode to watch and that's about it), but that's really crossing my fingers in a big way.

I second the Looney Tunes Golden Collection. Who would not LOVE that set? Universally loved, totally rewatchable. The discs have not been out of our dvd player since we bought the set.
