The Ghost and the Darkness with Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer about the two lions that killed 130 railroad workers in Africa. After I watched the film I went to the Chicago Field Museum's website and looked at pics of the actual lions on display. Cool.

The Right Stuff - get the new two-disc Special Edition
Boys Don't Cry
Not Without My Daughter
The Onion Field
Quiz Show
Thirteen Days
The Insider

The last three are loose adaptations, sometimes weaving together several similar true stories.

The excellent Canadian made-for-TV film The Boys of St. Vincent will be released on DVD on February 17 (according to Amazon.com). A warning though, it can be a painful film to watch, however it's an ultimately rewarding experience. I have found few details about this New Yorker Video release so far but it's worth keeping an eye out for it. If this turns out to be a quality release, it's definitely worth considering.

And don't forget my favorite, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

.... "the best nonfiction novel since In Cold Blood. Like Truman Capote's masterpiece, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is the true story of a murder. It is also the portrait of a Southern city in all its charm and eccentricity and a comedy of manners that has pointed things to say about sex and gender, truth and rumor, and superstition and belief."

Not a movie, but a BBC TV series, All Creatures Great and Small from the books by James Herriot.

Just thought of one that's FANTASTIC!!!

True story that you won't believe could happen in the last quarter of the 20th century!!

"Lorenzo's Oil"

We've introduced this to many, many couples , old and young. Everyone who has seen it is flabergasted!

Although still in theatres, Calendar Girls is a very funny film based on a true story. Stay away from Radio, though; absolutely horrible and hackneyed feel-good movie that dehumanises the mentally challenged character on whom it is based.
