I'm thinking of blind buying these Region 1 DVDs. Since I'm not sure about buying most of them, I'd greatly appreciate it if you guys could give your opinions on my selection. For those who own the DVD's, what do you like and/or not like about them and etcetera. The list is as follows:

The Green Mile (1999)
Thirteen Days (2000)
Force 10 from Navarone (1978)
The Mosquito Cost (1986)
Little Nikita (1988)
River's Edge (1986)
Permanent Record (1988)
Better Off Dead... (1985)
Tapeheads (1988)
True Colors (1991)
Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)
The Watcher (2000)
Unforgettable (1996)
Blow (2001)
Sid and Nancy (1986)
Immortal Beloved (1994)
Murder in the First (1995)
Flatliners (1990)
Diner (1982)
JFK (1991)
A Few Good Men (1992)
Bachelor Party (1984)
Road to Perdition (2002)

That's all for now. Thanks for your input and have an excellent day. :D

Tell me what movies you do have, and what you like, and I'll tell you if that list has good blind buys.

I've been pretty good at matching things up lately.

The Mosquito Cost (1986)

Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)

not saying anything bad about the rest, but of your list these are my favorite titles.
next to Raiders (which is his most likable performance), Fords work in MC is among his best.
to me, its one of the best films of the 80's.

same thing with S,L,&V. very modest character driven piece.

i'd highly recommend both of them for anyones collection.

Here's my opinion on these films

The Green Mile (1999)
- If you've seen Shawshank Redemption, you'll really like this one.
Hold off on this one if you're big on special editions as the possibility of one still exists. Otherwise, a good choice for a blind buy.

Thirteen Days (2000)
- Good historical drama, but good is as far as I would go. A renter.

Force 10 from Navarone (1978)
Don't know

The Mosquito Cost (1986)
Don't know

Little Nikita (1988)
Don't know

River's Edge (1986)
Don't know

Permanent Record (1988)
Don't know

Better Off Dead... (1985)
I'm not sure of your track record with 80's films (you do have There's Something About Mary so you do have good comedy taste. :D ) I love this film (if you've seen Karate Kid Part II, the Asian guy that plays Chosen does a Howard Cosell impression). I'd ask one more person about this one

Tapeheads (1988)
Don't know

True Colors (1991)
Don't know

Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)
Don't know

The Watcher (2000)
Don't know

Unforgettable (1996)
Don't know

Blow (2001)
A really packed special edition, it's got Johnny Depp, and it can be found for cheap. A really good movie too, and one I would blind buy.

Sid and Nancy (1986)
Don't know

Immortal Beloved (1994)
Don't know, except that if you like Beethoven, I hear this is the one to get. I love his music, but I'd hold off on the movie.

Murder in the First (1995)
Don't know

Flatliners (1990)
Don't know

Diner (1982)
It's cheap. But I'm not sure of this one.

JFK (1991)
It's been forever since I've watched it, but I thought it dragged quite a bit. But then I was young when I watched it.

A Few Good Men (1992)
Oh yes, this is a great blind buy.

Bachelor Party (1984)
Run and get this movie.

Road to Perdition (2002)
You like Tom Hanks, don't you? I love this movie, but I think the music in it is amazing. If possible, get the DTS version.

Thirteen Days (2000) - decent historical thriller about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Worth grabbing on to.

Immortal Beloved (1994) - absolutely no way I could recommend this. Just on the basis of the movie was weak (and significant liberties were taken with the historical facts from what I understand)

A Few Good Men (1992) - If you like Aaron Sorkin's writing (West Wing, Sports Night), then you'll definitely want to get this film adaptation of his play. Extras were so-so, but I'll overlook that.

Just in case if anyone would like to 'browse' my DVD collection, it's listed at: Ray's DVD Collection @ guzzlefish.com
This is ALWAYS going to be updated constantly and since I pretty much buy movies I REALLY enjoy, this site is icing on the cake for me. I pretty much collect by movie, actor, director and theme. Thanks and have a kick ass day, fellow DVD collector's!

I see Gary Oldman in your future ;)

JFK
Sid and Nancy
Murder in the First
Immortal Beloved

You should definitely go with the above if you like Gary, and at least check out the following (I enjoyed these!) :

The Green Mile (Love it)
Better Off Dead... (Classic Comedy)
Blow (Love the movie, and it's got Depp)
Flatliners (Guilty pleasure)
JFK (Stone)
A Few Good Men (I second Jack's performance)
Road to Perdition (Good movie)

And as sexy as Linda Fiorentino is, I'd say pass on Unforgettable. Get Jade instead :b

Chris,
DUDE! Gary Oldman is the 'shiznit'! I'm glad you appreciate his work! I've actually seen Unforgettable on Sci-Fi and was wondering if it'd be a good idea to buy this since Mr. Liotta and I have the same first name. I wonder how that would work out if he and I worked on a movie together...

The Green Mile (1999)
Diner (1982)
A Few Good Men (1992)

Reccomendations for your second wave:

Blow (2001) -Another vote for this one. Great Movie
:emoji_thumbsup:

Road to Perdition (2002)- Great performances, setting and story.

Flatliners (1990)- A little campy for today's standards but it's worth seeing a least once. maybe a rental?

Does anyone know how good the transfer is with "Flatliners"? How about the sound?

Good movie, IMO.

IMO, The Watcher is absolute dreck. Not even the performance of the usually outstanding James Spader can save this film...

Most of the other films in your list are very solid choices. Some of them may be of questionable taste, like Bachelor Party, but are very entertaining nonetheless :)

You MUST see Sid And Nancy if you are a Gary
Oldman fan. Chloe Webb is great also.

I also recommend Diner (one of my desert island
movies), A Few Good Men (good writing and acting),
and Bachelor Party (fun movie).

Happy watching! :D

From your newest blind buy list, I would
strongly recommend Wag The Dog, Fargo, Radio
Days and The Silence Of The Lambs. All of
these films have very good screenplays.
