The Denon DVD-1600 is just under $300 at Crutchfield if you use coupons. Abe's of Maine has the Panasonic XP30 for $199. These are considered the top rated models.

It really depends on what type of setup you have. For just playing DVDs, a lot of the $50 and under players will work just fine on a regular TV. If you have HDTV etc you might want something more.

Of course for an analog TV, you only need an interlaced player - progressive DVD itself requires a digital TV. Though now even the cheaper DVD players all support progressive, but default to interlaced mode.

Word has it you might be able to wrangle one of the cheaper Universal players for a bit more than that, might be worth saving up for.

(would this really be the home theater forum if someone didn't suggest spending more money?)
