Well which one is it? Which way does the standard seem to be leaning? I've been wanting to get a DVDRW drive, but have been holding out to wait for the +/- drives to go down in price, because I don't know which one is better or not... any comments?

This has been covered numerous times before. (Please use the Search function.)

But to make a long story short, the direction will be to support both. Most of the newer drives handle both formats, which is the better approach rather than fight a useless standards war. The DVD Forum (the "official" DVD body) has approved and only supports DVD-R/W. DVD+R/W is for all intents an purposes a bastardization; however, many of the companieswho developed DVD+R/W are members of the DVD Forum. When it comes to compatibility, DVD-R/W still wins out (although not necessarily by much) over DVD+R/W.
