It turns out that the DVD ROM in my computer will not pass through a digital audio signal. I would like one that has an SPDIF cable connection for going straight to the sound card. I already have a CD/RW so I don't need a combo. Any recomendations on tried and tested units?

Thanks

Hey Tom,

Before running out and buying a new DVD-ROM, do you know that digital audio can be passed through the IDE cable from the DVD-ROM? I don't have any audio connectors to my DVD-ROM and I can output DD/DTS through my soundcard's SPDIF output to my reciever.

Regards,

Eric

Yes, I looked into that and finally traced down the specifications on the drive. It turns out that many of the Pioneer DVD-ROMs in Sony computers are analog only. They will pass the Dolby Pro-Logic signal but not a digital.
