DVD - Rom Problem (1 Viewer)

My DVD Rom drive will not read DVDs. It clicks and grunts for about 15 sec and then spits the disc out. It is a pioneer 10x drive...not sure of model. Not a problem to watch the movie..use standalone player for that but would like to access the Rom material on the discs. Thanks for any suggestions

Try cleaning it?
Will it read a CD?
All drivers (IDE, Etc.) up to date?
Did it just quit working or is this the first you've tried it?
System specs (MB, OS, Etc.) might be helpful as well.

It could be dirty I suppose...have had it for two years and worked fairly good up until recently but then again it will read CDs without to much trouble. I will try cleaning and see if that helps.
