It's actually even better than that. After initially reporting the figures you posted, the VSDA sent a follow-up press release saying:

Not to beat a dead horse, but the industry would be wise to use this gravitation towards DVD to educate the public about OAR.

Probably won't happen, though--it makes too much sense.

And they say rental chains are dying because of retail sales! [IMG]

Also interesting to know - how many movies are still available on VHS cassette, but not on DVD?

Have we reached the state where movies are on DVD, but not on cassettte?

That's good news! I've watched the DVD section of my local Hollywood Video expand over the past year, taking over more and more of the VHS racks. (BTW, they carry widescreen DVDs when available.)

Jan, must be nice. Only thing near me is BB and their catalog release section, or "non-New Rentals" as they call it, has been stagnant for the last couple of years. I read about this older title or that older title coming to DVD, but the rental copies never show up in my BB.

Catalog titles rarely show up at my BB as well. I finally quit going there a couple of months ago.

In one way I'm glad to see DVD take over, but in another way it means that J6P finally rules the format.
