Trying not to get too confused with CD-R capabilities. Where faster cd-r record faster.

When using DVD-R's in DVD recorders ( such as the Sony GX7), does DVD media speed matter?
I would think not, because everything records in real time.

    Am I correct?
There's plenty of 1x media at very low prices these days.

For DVD recorders like the Panasonic E80 and E50 models, they can only record DVD-R in 1x speed, so any faster media won't change that. However the high-end Pansonic E100 model supports 2x and perhaps 4x DVD-R speeds, so faster media on that model would be faster recording from its hard disk. Of course for real-time recording to disc 1x would be used.

    Sooooo.....
Since I have the Sony DVD recorder without a HDD, I should assume that anything faster than 1x is a waste of money?

You are correct sir. The faster recording is ONLY for people with HDs. You don't need to get the better media if you don't have it.
