Just wondered if dvd players that state they play dvd-r will play mp3s burned
to dvd-r. I just picked up the panny s55 and it doesn't read the disks.
I may have been naive to think this was possible but thought it was.
Could someone clarify this for me. I figured it could hold and play way more
songs than standard cd with mps.

Thanks

Sorry if this sounds confusing.

I've had the same problem on two players, it seems the DVD player sees the disc as a dvd and looks for the dvd video (.ifo .vob ect) files. I have tried the opposite too of putting a small 10 minute dvd on a cdr and I couldn't play it either.

I know for the cdr you would need to probably convert it
to svcd or vcd. I just can't figure out why it doesn't see
mp3s on dvd-r, it reads cdrs with mp3s?

It all depends on the DVD player you have. Some will play MP3's off DVD's some will not. Go to www.videohelp.com for all the info you would want for DVD-R & CDR's.

I have been there.

Its funny the disk played in a Yammy that couldn't play dvd-a but would not play in Pioneer 563a, though it played in
the 363 and it's not compatible with dvd-a either. I wonder
if there is a connection with dvd-a and dvd mp3s?

My goal is to find a dvd-a player that will play dvd-r mp3's
for under 400, which might be hard.

Thanks for the help.

Well, my Sony DVP-S9000ES won't even play music files copied directly from CD... so I'm sure it won't do MP3s. It seems as if it somehow "knows" it's not a store-bought disc. No matter. I don't have the time to fool with burning music files anyway. I audition clips on line at Amazon.com or Telarc.com etc. and if I like a cut, I buy the CD.

I guess that's why about 1000 of my 1500 CDs have only been listened to once or twice. :rolleyes
