Just came across the following at DVD Profiler.com
"The first Beta release of DVD Profiler 2.0.0 is now available! Users with a premium registration may download the release and participate in the Beta program. We'll also be sending out an email to all premium registrants with details and a password to access the Beta forum."
I'm at work right now.....can't wait to get home and try out the new version. The updates look mighty impressive.[IMG]

    Downloaded and installed this Beta
    version today.

No major interface changes as far as
    I can see.....but then again, I don't use
DVD PROFILER for more than the few minutes
it takes me to enter titles.

Would be interested to read responses from
those members that have more in-depth knowledge
    of the interface.

Will they ever release a version for Mac OS X? I really need to catalogue my DVDs.

Downloaded and installed it as well. It runs faster, not much but a little. The biggy I have noticed so far is that it will let you run graphs on the stats of your collection.

That's definitely new and I personally like the option. Other than that, I don't see a whole lot of difference so far.

I use the software quite a bit and here are the differences I've found in the short amount of time I've been using it:
    • Each line that a movie is listed on (and actor names in the credits) are alternating colors.
    • An Easter Eggs tab has been added to the DVD details. They are tied into the submissions so you don't have to type it in if someone else did already. Very cool!
    • More disc extras than before. New ones include THX Certified, Music Videos and I think Closed Captioned and Multi-Angle are new.
    • NTSC or PAL selection in the Audio/Video tab. Also, 6.1 and 7.1 audio channels have been added.
    • Something about the Title section has changed. Maybe it's just the layout. I remember the Contributors being on the upper right. Now it's on the lower left.
    • Some of the icons have been updated as well as some new ones added. An eye and bar graph are now there.
    • The Actor names are clickable. When you click the actors name, it now shows what other movies he has been in that you have in your collection.
That's about it. I've just given it a quick look so I'm sure I missed some stuff.

Here is more (from the DVD profiler site):
    • Duplex support - print odd pages only, even pages only, or both
    • Login screens in DVD Profiler now include option to have your information mailed to you, or to create a new account.
    • New element for date report printed (on headers and footers)
    • Password storage now uses secure hashing algorithm
    • Blank Disc ID manual entries are no longer allowed
    • Entering irregular UPCs no longer prompts to validate twice
    • Add a new DVD, edit actors, select cancel no longer results in error message
Also, since this is beta, they're not allowing you to submit entries yet. And the entries that are currently there may be a few days or a week old.

but what about the BIG question - does version 2.0 still have the same annoying "load a new movie when you scroll through your list" feature?

    They STILL don't support Mac?

Until they do, no money from me. I'll stick with the freebie version.

I downloaded & installed it this morning. I installed it to the default directory. When I launch DVD Profiler, it still says Version 1.1.0. Obviously there's something I need to know?

    Hi,
let's not forget the best feature of them all: Interantional language support! Hurrah for language support! We love laguage support, especially the German one.
Can you tell I'm one of the German translators? [IMG]

Forgot to ask another question...of prime importance to me is being able to still use DVD Profiler Cast...anyone tried this yet on the Besta version? Will be curious also as to whether or not a restore from a backup will retain boxed set information (version 1.1.0 does not).

I just tried DVD Profiler Cast, and it seemed to work for me. I deleted all of the actors of a movie, and then used Profiler Cast. The actor's fields were blank after running Cast, but when I hit save for the title, all of the names appeared. A bit strange but worked on this one title!

I really like the new "sorting title" feature.
For example, you could have Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in your collection (it could happen one day....[IMG] ) but they would be listed alphabetically in your collection and therefore wouldn't be next to each other in order.
Previously, your only option was to change the actual title (I had personally changed Die Hard: With a Vengence to Die Hard 3: With a Vengence)
Now, each dvd has a sorting title feature. So, you can keep the actual title of Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi as the title that is shown, but enter a sorting title of Star Wars 5 and Star Wars 6 so that they appear next to Star Wars (sorting title: Star Wars 4). The sorting title is only shown when you edit the profile.
Can't wait until this is out of beta and the profiles begin to update with the new fields (Easter Eggs!)
