I have an RCA AVR and it will only do 5.1 via the RCA jacks labled 6 channel DVD IN

the JACKS are
Front left
Front right
Center
right rear
left rear
LFE/SUB

There is a digital coax but it will only do 2.1
There are optical ins and outs But my DVDP only has COAX

Are there any DVDP's that do this? I am only getting 2.1 which sounds fine, but I want the center and rear channels also.

Digital coax that only does 2.1? That doesn't sound right.
Go into the dvd player's setup menus, and see if you have the choice of "Bitstream" in the audio output area. It sounds like it might be set to PCM (stereo), which is wrong, for 5.1 surround. If "Bitstream" or "Raw" is an option, choose it, and see if you get 5.1 then. It may have a DTS "On" also, that is separate from bitstream. DVD players do not come from the factory, ready to output 5.1 surround. You have to enable it, as I've suggested.

You may also need to assign the digital coax input on the receiver, to the dvd player, but it may already be assigned to it from the factory. A lot are. Double check for Bitstream, and let us know..............

You can get a dvd player, with 5.1 outputs, and it will work for movies, but usually meant for SACD and DVD-A surround music discs, but the coax will be better for movies, if you get it working right.
Good luck!

I think I'll look into seeing if the DVD player can be set to "bitstream", unfortunately my HT setup is at my parents house
I think My DVDP has Digital output audio set to "all" as it calls it.

It was a 50.00-$61.00 DVDP

I think the receiver may be only to decode the audio in 2.1 via digital coax?

I don't have the video routed through and out of the receiver so i don't know if the receiver itself has an on-screen Menu.

If your AVR has the "Dolby Digital" logo on the front it can do 5.1 through the digital inputs. It would have to be ancient to only do 2.0.

The receiver is there too I just got back yesterday and just realized what it didnt do.

I think I found a solution Coby makes DVD players that have built in DTS and DD decoders and have 5.1 channel analoge outputs along with the standard toslink and coax and stereo outs on some of their players. Plus there seems to be a lot of used players at pawn shops that are surprisingly High-end and have outputs that arent standard on many cheaper players so, I geuss my problem will be solved soon.

I don't mind 2.1 for now its not that bad seince the sub -woofer channel is there :D

Sometimes Blu-ray players with my required outputs show-up at local Buy-sell-trade stores for $69-$99.00

Or a new receiver could be In-order I saw a newer sony 5.1 reciver for 120.00

I only bought the setup for the speakers anyway I was planning on getting a better amp later on down the road anyway.

Anyway, thank you for your help eveybody who posted on this thread.

Wish me luck, :D

If I get a new one it will either be the insignia or the sony, bu the sony has better features, so the sony it will be. :D

I will keep the old one in case the new one decides to blow out or better sell the old one on ebay  .
