The Denon 2900 has the Silicon Image (SI504) deinterlacer chip not Faroudja, but it is considered a good one too. The new Denon 2200 is cheaper ($699) with the same chip, you might consider that. The new Denon 910 and 1200 have Faroudja but softer image and color flicker bug compared to the DVD-1600 which sells for around $300. The DVD-1200 and DVD-1600 have DVD-Audio, while the DVD-2200 and DVD-2900 have DVD-Audio and SACD, what do you need?
The Panasonic RP91 is a 3year old high-end model, but it has an older Genesis de-interlacer, not the Faroudja. Stick with Denon over those others you list.

thankyou i will go with the denon. i now have the choice of the 2900 9 i like the single door. or the 4800 on a close out for 599$ brand new. i have read some reviews on the 4800 and it seems pretty good. i also called denon about buying either the 4800 or the 2900 . the tech i spoke with stated that the audio output (usuing analog outputs) on the 4800 are better than the audio i will hear on the new 2900. but, the video end is better on the 2900. he stated that i couldnt go wrong with either unit. i am really not crazy about a carasoul. so i narrowed it down to 2 players and will probally go with the 2900. any thoughts??? frank

How about the brand new model Denon DVD-2200 for $599? It has the same Si504 de-interlacer as the older DVD-2900 plus dVD-audio and SACD support.
