I decided to put up a quick DVD player overview for everyone. Of course these are my opinions, but I think it helps to have one topic where people can view both positives and negatives of each player.
My top DVD players (picture quality). I think these are the 4 most talked about DVD players right now. I did not mention any other players because (in my opinion) those players are a level below the ones I mentioned. I have not seen the Denon 4800 so I cannot comment on that, but I have viewed the Sony 700, Onkyo 939, Denon 2800, and the Toshiba 6200.
1. Philips Q50
2. Panasonic DVD-RP91
3. Panasonic DVD-RP56
4. Kenwood DV-5700 (I haven’t seen the 5900, but im hoping the same video quality will apply)
Philips Q50 $500 online
Positives:
Excellent picture quality
No chroma bug
No combing
Negatives:
Front display may bother some people
Remote is not backlit
Disc access is average
Image shifted upward(awaiting a fix on this)
Layer change noticeable
Panasonic DVD-RP91 $430 online
Positives:
Great picture quality
No chroma bug
Minimal combing (mostly on special information)
Ability to scale dvd's
Negatives:
No time change display on front of unit
Pink bug (which is correctable)
Image shifted to the left
Disc access is average
Layer change noticeable
Remote is ok and not backlit
Panasonic DVD-RP56 $250 online
Positives:
Great picture quality
No chroma bug
Very little combing
Cheap
Negatives:
No time change display on front of unit
Disc access is average
Layer change noticeable
Remote is ok and not backlit
Kenwood DV-5700 $1,199 online
Positives:
Great picture quality
No chroma bug
No combing
Negatives:
Disc access is very slow
Remote is terrible
Layer change noticeable
Very expensive
Please let me know if I left anything out. And feel free to add, question, or list other players.
Thanks,
Andy

Man, get the Panny RP56. You can find a way better price than $250 (search for the lowest price on the web, then march into Sears with that price), and it's probably the best DVD player for under $500.
