I am looking at the Sampo DVE-631CF, which has a subwoofer out. Should I hook the subwoofer cable directly to the DVD player, or should I hook it up through the receiver?

Hook up the digital connection (optical or coax) from the DVD player to the receiver, and hookup the subwoofer to the sub-out on the receiver.

The sub-out on the DVD player should just be part of the 6 channel analog output from it's built in decoder.

I agree. Use the output from the RECEIVER, not the DVD player.

    This allows the receiver to:

    - Adjust the sub volume up/down with the other speakers

    - Send low-frequency sounds from speakers to the sub

Thanks guys. I was a little confused, because the sub out on the DVD player was something I hadn't seen before. I should stop buying new stuff.:b
